We bought this for a school project and it was great. It was easy to build and took us three days to complete. My 8yr old had a great time doing this and we were both proud of the results. She showcased this at the school science expo and did multiple (over 35) eruptions. I’d highly recommend this kit to anyone who wants to make a volcano from scratch. I bought this volcano and put it together with my 2 & 4 year old grandsons who had a lot of fun making & painting it then we did other things as it dried in the oven. Afterwards, the boys had so much fun performing the experiment over and over. They got the biggest kick in seeing the chemical reaction that happened when mixing the sodium bicarbonate and the citric acid. The kit comes with 3 packets, I believe, and we easily made up our own mix after using those. The volcano they made has lasted and lasted after being used many times and carried around all over outside. This was safe for them to do but needs adult supervision and guidance. Also, this foams out the top and does not “explode” or shoot high. If you’re looking for simply something that explodes and shoots high, I would recommend finding a new 2 liter bottle of diet soda and dropping 5 mentos into it - it will shoot up at least 20-30 feet (will not work after the soda has been used for experiment already). ... show more
