  • So cool for my 3.5 year old to learn circuits.
Style: 120+ Projects
He loves bubbles too, and always wants to use the air machine to make bubbles. The piano, microphone, lights, and helicopter are awesome too! Very happy with my purchase!

  • A kit that's fun, easy, and educational!
Style: 40+ Projects
This was a hit with one of the kids! This kit led me on a hunt to find the kit I had when I was younger. It was one of those electronics kits where you punch out holes, pop little springs in everywhere, feed capacitors, resistors, light bulbs, piezos, photocells, etc., through the top, attach them to the bottom of the springs, and then go nuts on top connecting the springs with bits of wire to do all sorts of things. I couldn't find the exact kit I had when searching online, but it did spark up (pun intended) a good memory of me accidentally connecting a wrong wire and burning out something on my board (complete with lovely burning smell). This kit is a far cry from that - that's not a good or a bad thing. It's a lot more plug and play and simplifies things a little. The benefit here is that it's much harder to completely destroy parts in your set! :D The instructions here are also wonderful. They're absolutely great complete with illustrations in colour. The way the instructions/information is given for the 40 projects, though, just takes kids through building and following instructions. It doesn't really teach much in the realm of problem solving, unfortunately. Because of that, this kit can be used by kids much younger than the suggested 8 years old target. Depending on the child, one as young as three could do this with adult help. And a 6 year old that has good comprehension and follows directions well would likely be able to do this on their own or with only a little adult intervention. The kit is a little pricey for what's contained within, but it is a quality set that will last as the kids do the activities over and over again. So at the end of the day, the price point isn't unreasonable. Overall, a pretty neat set! ... show more

  • As a kid I loved these type of science sets, especially electrical and electronics
Style: 120+ Projects
I wanted to see just how good or bad this set was, as I've been highly disappointed in the "learning" value of many of the STEAM/STEM labeled items anymore. I still have some of my kid's Radio Shack "10-200 in 1" electrical/electronics kits, that have been used now for two generations, so have some inkling on what they should be like, and also taught electronics during my suit and noose time at 3M. I do understand that electronics at a component level is not what it used to be, and now it's more black box techno, but still the basics of electricity are important to understand and grasp. This set was really a pure joy to fiddle with. Yes, it's very simplistic for a fairly younger player, but it has some fun components and most of the "experiments" are entertaining and have some educational value, which in my mind is a huge plus! There were a few gimmies, of "experiments" that were just a query, but most involved some form of connecting the components in some form of meaningful ways, and relating to current items in modern use. The components themselves are very well made, and the connector/wires plug nicely into place with fixed mini-plugs; about the size of a headphone minijack connector. I really like the fact that most every component is screwed together, NOT plastic-welded, so that if something does go bad, or the child is such as I was, and tends to have to disassemble everything to see what's inside, it's easy and restorable. The "circuits" are easily made, with simple pictorial and written instructions in a decent manual, and the level is very basic but educational and correct. I toyed with many of the parts and found them to be well made and should be able to last for repeated playtimes, not like many of this type where they are too fragile for much use. I used rechargeable batteries and everything worked fine with them, which saves costs immensely for some circuits that could drain them fairly quickly if played with for longer sessions. I really think that this item is a good reflection on the National Geographic's standards, that I have felt was somewhat diminished in some items they put their name on in the past. I really think this is a great little learning toy, for a youngster just starting to learn about electricity; and at a super price for the component quality and variety. Perhaps will inspire that a new Einstein of the next generation into a love of science. Needless to say, I DO recommend this item for such. This is a toy that gives the STEAM/STEM label some meaning! ... show more

  • Perfect for the curious minds
Style: 120+ Projects
I am absolutely enthusiastic about this Nat Geo scient kit. It's got so many little projects that are easy to follow and let curious kiddos explore the science behind our everyday products. I admit I was pretty ignorant to a lot of the (very basic) science that goes into making our gadgets work, but this also helped enlighten me and make it much less intimidating. And although this won't make anyone confident in building their own PC, it definitely helps bring enough confidence to do minor DIY projects like changing swapping a gameboy battery. ... show more

  • fun and educational
Style: 120+ Projects
This is the perfect kit for kids who love science and learning how things work. The kit comes with all kinds of circuit making components and the instructions are pretty simple to follow. Older children will have no difficulty on their own, while younger children may need some help. This was a really fun kit for both my 11 and 14 year old. I love that it kept them engaged while also teaching them. This would make a great gift as well. ... show more

  • Great circuit maker for kids!
Style: 120+ Projects
I love all of the National Geographic activities (I do lots of their experiments with my small child who also loves them). This one is great as it teaches how different types of circuits work and what helps them get powered. My little girl LOVES watching the outcome, which was also my favorite thing when I was studying electrical engineering. It comes with enough to keep her busy and understand the process. She's only 5 so understanding certain concepts could be more difficult but I help explain the basics and I'm sure with time she'll keep understanding, especially considering this is geared to older children but she's been interested so much in how certain things work. I would highly recommend this kit. ... show more
