These were awesome. Our kids absolutely loved them. They do make a big mess but so worth it. The crystals in them were very nice we did get some colored ones. Instruction are in box. My son loved this activity - great for rock/geode loving kids and those that like to smash things! They were not overly difficult to break (for him). Inside were mostly the clear crystals but we got a beautiful light purple and one that had black and white. Gorgeous! We had 9 proper geodes and 1 rock. Not bad and he had fun smashing the rock too. It was a fun activity for my young son. He enjoyed using his dad's hammer safely to open the geodes up and what pretty designs were inside. Only thing that I would complain about is that once they are all broken open, that's it. So my son used this kit in like 10 minutes.

I bought the 10 Premium Geodes kit on a whim and because I was curious as to why geodes could be considered 'used', I sprung for the used kit to save a few dollars. That was a good decision as it was just an open box. All the items were there. The geodes are fairly small, and this price was still more than they were worth, but there were 10 of them and there was a bit of variety. Some turned out to be just quartz, with no cavity to speak of, but since this is nature, that's the risk we take and they are still very pretty. I cut these with my tile saw and I do not recommend breaking them with a hammer. Most of the ones I got would be smashed to small bits by a hammer, especially if wielded by an exuberant child. The crystals were all clear quartz, which was what I expected based on other reviews. We are using these for wedding favors so it was fine. If you are expecting to be wowed by mulicolored crystals you will be disappointed. The kit has a nice booklet with information on how geodes form, a completely worthless plastic magnifying glass (really, don't even bother with this. Use a real magnifying glass), a useful pair of eye protection glasses (please use!) and two basic stands in case you don't smash these rocks completely and want to display them. Clean them up with a little ammonia water and they will shine better. If you have a rock shop in your area, it may be more satisfying to go choose your own geodes. There are also a lot of other sellers on this platform and others who sell better quality. But this was a satisfying kit. ... show more

I bought these for my husband and our grandson (3). They had a great time hammering away on the rocks and revealing the crystals inside. While my grandson had fun using the hammer, in the end it took some concerted effort from my husband to split the stones. Beautiful crystals inside. We kept half of a stone, adding it to our rock garden and our grandson took the other half home with him. And we have more stones to split at a later date. Win/win. Worth the buy. ... show more

I bought these as a fun project to do with my kids and they did not disappoint! Four of the five rocks were beautiful geodes, one was just a nodule. The nodule was extremly hard to crack... Nothing my husband, a metal punch, and a handheld sledge couldn't handle! We will polish the inside for a nicer look. The other rocks were realitively easy to open... My seven year old was even able to crack one! They recommend the sock method, but if you want nice clean breaks I would not go that route. All in all, I am very satisfied with the product we received and will buy again! ... show more

The geodes are 4 very different sizes. The smallest one being just a rock with not much inside. Grandchildren were very disappointed in the 2 smaller ones. Obviously, they will all be different and inside unnknown. And 2/4 were real geodes. But for $40 this doesn't seem worth it. This was a birthday gift for an 8 yr old grandson. It was entertaining as well as educating . I bought the basic one last year And he loved it and wanted an advanced version. He actually worked it the day after, of course his father helped him.
