I wouldn't say it's lightweight, as it does hold in heat. So, if it's a chilly night, it would be fine alone. My only complaint is that after the first washing, little pieces of fuzz came loose and stuck on the bed sheet. After a second wash the problem was eliminated. I was very pleased with this blanket, until I washed it. Lint balls were everywhere. They were in my washer, my dryer as well as stuck to the blanket. I literally had to pick the lint balls off of it. When I finished, the lint was the size of a baseball. That is a lot of lint. It was all over the blanket as well as all around the edges. The color was beautiful and they are very soft as promised. I purchased three of these and had the same issue with all three. Hoping after a few more washings ,this issue will go away.
