  • Very nice board!!
Great board!! Works just fine when I was finally able to update the bios without a cpu. I’m sure it’s easily done using m-flash thru the bios but when you buy this board for the new 13th Gen (i7-13700k) it’s a major PAI! You can’t load bios or see anything and you have to use the button on the back of the board. The process is simple enough but getting it to work not so much. I could not get it to initiate it. Plug in the main 24 pin plus the two 8 pin cpus then download the latetest bios onto a usb, rename the file and so on. But the problem is/was the usb drive!! I tried 2 USB 3.0 drives (64GB) and 3 USB 2.0 drives from 256mb, 2GB, and a 8GB. Yes even reformatted to FAT32 on all of them and still didn’t work. Only got it to work after sheer desperation when I reformatted the USB drive that came with the board that holds all the drivers. I figured F it nothing to lose because I ran out of USB drives to try with. Installed the rom file onto that and it worked just fine! No idea! The mystic light is finicky on this one vs my Z390 Carbon. Dragon center wouldn’t work (motherboard wouldn’t show up, but the Gskill ram did lol) so I had to use MSI Center instead. SO IF YOURE PURCHASING FOR A 13TH GEN AND YOUR USB DRIVE DOESNT WORK TO UPDATE THE BIOS, USE THE ONE IN THE BOX!!!! LOL.. ... show more

  • Great board
The last computer i built was back in 2012 so this board was my attempt to future proof for the next 10 years. Every part of the build process concerning the board went great. The back panel is attached so that saved a step. The build quality is really good and and the features are what i was looking for. The software that comes with it is pretty great too. The collection of apps is pretty inclusive and might come in handy. If i had to list a couple cons ... 1. The packaging didn't make it clear that the "install disk" was the tiny slim logo etched usb stick inside the tinted plastic baggie. After going through all the items i was left wondering what that little thing was. So lable just one more thing amongst badges and other items. Though once i realized that it was a usb driver installation was simple. It just needed a little sticker that identifies it. 2. The back panel audio ports are all black except for the one red one. Note that that one is the LINE OUT which is usually green. I misread the manual and i had it plugged into the LINE IN. Totally recommended ... show more

  • Nice board!
Why anyone would buy a much more expensive Z790 board is beyond me. This Z690 board is amazing! I had 7200MHz RAM running stable on this board with the 13700K processor along with the latest BIOS (which now supports 14th gen). Yes, you have to update the BIOS if you want to use a 13th gen or 14th gen processor. Not sure why some other reviewers are complaining about that. This board was released for 12th gen processors. You can update the BIOS on the board by using an older USB 2.0 flash drive formatted FAT32. Download the BIOS file from the MSI website and rename the file in the archive to MSI.ROM before copying it to the USB. There are videos on YouTube explaining how to do this; follow their instruction and you won’t have any problem. I had no issues updating the BIOS using the button on the rear I/O panel; worked on the first attempt. And no, most motherboards don't include paper copies of manuals anymore. You will need to download the PDF manual from the MSI website. ... show more

  • Great once installed, just make sure you have drivers before you start.
I am a big fan of MSI products. I have purchased several gaming laptops and other MSI products throughout the years. This time, I needed a motherboard for a new desktop that I wanted to build, and after many considerations, I decided to go with the MSI MPG Z690 Carbon WIFI. Installing the board was quick and easy. There are more than enough available connectors for your fans, RGB, USB, SATA, etc. More than I needed anyway. The only problem I ran into, and this is why I'm not giving it a full 5 stars, is that Windows does not recognize several things on this board. Two of them being WIFI and LAN, which can cause a problem if you have limited online access via other means. To counter this, it would be best to first download the driver(s) - at the very least those to be able to go online - from MSI.com, so you have them ready for Windows right after setup (or even during, for example using shift-F10 to access the command prompt). It's not a big issue, but it is annoying nonetheless. So far, my setup with this board (i9 12900K, 32GB DDR5, 3080ti) has been a blast. And if my past experiences with MSI are any indicator, I'm betting I'm going to enjoy this board for quite some time :) ... show more

  • I am in love with the Z690 Carbon
This motherboard is amazing! It's beautiful, well-built, and has headers for days! Okay, okay... features... uhh where do I begin.. Well, for starters, it has a super handy debug display (two 8-segment displays, not just a couple leds on the board) The rgb dragon is simply stunning, in my humble opinion. I think all the rgb accents on this board were very tastefully done. Really makes the board stand out. The board has heatsinks with thermal pads for your m.2 SSD's (no more toasty data sticks), and the graphics card slot is reinforced. This really is my favorite motherboard so far. Having on-board wifi is a blessing (my old boards didn't have it), and the antenna having a magnetic base is a super cool bonus! I always hated how the antenna for my wifi adapter would just fall off of my computer every time I looked at it wrong. I definitely recommend this board. 👍 ... show more
