  • Shuffle Play!!!
Color: Black Capacity: 8GB
I read the reviews and took a shot on this and happy I did. This is a no-frills MP3 player - you charge it up, load songs, hook it to a speaker or headphone and listen to music. No WiFi, no Bluetooth, no overly complex product with features you don't need or require you to login and have your activity monitored. PROs: * Small and lightweight - I thought I was shipped an empty box until I opened it. * Sliding power button - probably one of its best features - no, not the sliding button with a spring you have to hold for x seconds to power up or down, this my friends is a simple power switch. Slide it one way, its ON, slide the other way, its off. No waiting for power-ups, shut downs, etc. In the middle of song and you have to shut it off? - just flip the switch and you're done. * Has internal memory! - I didn't read the description in detail, so maybe I missed this, but I hooked it up to my computer to charge, fully prepared to rip open the 32GB micro SD card I bought with it to load songs and viola, the MP3 player has its own flash drive. I apologize, I don't recall the size the size, but I loaded well over 4GB of MP3s without and issue and they played fine. * Battery seems good and long, I connected it to a passive speaker and it played for well over six hours without issue. Pretty sure it will go much longer, but I haven't tested it extensively. * Simply a great device if you just want a simple MP3 player without worrying about running your phone's battery down, buying a Bluetooth speaker, or forgetting to grab your phone that you connected to a wired speaker. CONs: *It's small, lightweight and made of plastic (not bad things), so while it's tempting to throw in your pocket, I'd worry about snapping it in half. It's not flimsy per se, but I wouldn't risk dropping it or putting it somewhere it might get tossed around or compressed. * My only complaint (hence the four star rating) is there is no shuffle option - at least not that I've been able to find. As others have stated, there doesn't seem to be a good way to choose songs. Personally, I don't need to pick a specific song, I just want to listen to music in a random order. So far it appears to either play in the order songs were loaded in or alphabetic order - haven't paid really looked into which. I know many modern cars with USB ports for playing MP3s go the former route. There is software you can download to select the play order for such devices, but the problem is still the same for me - the player will always play the songs in the same order. I assumed this was the case when I bought it, I was just hoping it wasn't. All-in-all, it's still a great player at a reasonable price. Updated 10-12-18 Found the shuffle play! Maybe this is in the manual I haven't read, but if you're playing a song and press the M button, the player will show some additional menu items. Among them is shuffle. Select it then scroll to YES (no seems to be the default). Press the center button then you're golden. Really love this player now. ... show more

  • Very nice follow on product to an earlier model
Color: Black Capacity: 8GB
Back in 2016 I purchased an earlier model of this MP3 player. That product didn't have as many features but was very reliable, as I used it extensively for about 7 years until the battery finally gave out. I ordered a later generation model in 2022 as a backup, and it also was a decent product though not quite as reliable as the initial one. I purchased this latest one because I inadvertently dropped the second one into a glass of water on my nightstand one night and that ruined it. With that background in mind, I really like this MP3 player, and am very impressed with the extent of functionality it offers. It connects easily to my PC via a USB-A cable, and transferring files is very simple. The only complaint I have, is that the manufacturer made some significant changes to the software interface compared to the previous two generations of this product. While over time I'm sure I'll adjust to the changes, initially it's kind of frustrating since I'm pressing buttons by habit and finding they don't do what they used to. Naturally this doesn't impact any buyer who never owned an earlier model, but as a long-time user I felt inspired to share this information just in case anyone else is buying this product again. With that said, I'm very happy to have purchased this latest generation model and am hoping it's as reliable as the original one was. ... show more

  • Pretty Good Affordable Music Player (Unless You're An Audiophile)
Color: Black Capacity: 16GB
I really want to like RUIZU X02 Music Player. It has a lot going for it. It seems well built and the buttons have a nice feel. In my opinion the user interface is fine and mostly intuitive although making it more aesthetically pleasing would be nice. Transferring music too it is pretty straightforward. Simply drag and drop or copy and paste. It works fine in Linux as well. Now I will get to the biggest issue for me. I never thought of myself as an Audio Snob, but the sound quality is just not up to what I am used to. To test I used the same flac, mp3, and ogg files on three different players; a Walkman from circa 2010 that in my opinion has great sound and a Sansa Clip+ and the Ruizu X02. The Walkman and the Clip+ both have nice clean sound in my opinion with the sound of the Walkman being the best. I've tried 4 different headphones 2 over the ear and 2 in the ear. In all cases the Ruizu X02 just sounds a bit "weak" to me and in all cases the Bass is just not rich enough , and it was hard to bring out all the sounds. There are equalizer presets and one custom slot. I've adjusted the EQ over and over to try to bring out some clean sound but can never seem to get it just right. At higher volumes it sounded more clear. On the other players the sound quality was the same at all volume levels. It is only a guess, but I am thinking the in the digital to analog conversion the sound quality is taken down. I'm hoping this can be remedied with a firmware update. Now, saying all that I still say this is a good device. I say that because the build, battery life and even the sound quality is good for the price. It is 1/3 the price I paid for the Walkman and it has an SD card slot so you can load tons of music on it. The Walkman does not have any expansion options. So the bottom line is that the Ruizu X02 likely acceptable for most listeners. If you are an audiophile you probably wouldn't be looking at a $30 audio player anyway but I'm pretty confident you won't be happy with this. Even though I give it 4 stars overall I may return it, but I'm going to test it for another week before I decide. ... show more
