Get these pedals if you want a classic low-profile platform with some decent molded in aluminum nubs to hold your feet in place, but don't want the sharpness and risk-to-shins of screw-in spikes. Those are my own go-to and well worth it, but some riders need less grip and they also need less risk to shins if they bump the pedal. The good news: adjustable bearings. The bad news: you'll probably have to adjust them. This takes five minutes if you've done it before with the same 12mm locking nut on the outside end of the spindle, which you loosen, then back out the race a turn, and then tighten the lock nut to see if that's close enough. This can take a few tries since I don't usually have a way to hold the race in place while I tighten the lock nut. In other words, these pedal bearings adjust like Campagnolo quills or pista pedals of yore, MKS old school pedals, and most older pedals. They're not sealed bearings but it's useful to know these are an adjustable type since most new pedals are too tight out of the box (including all those old Campagnolo, MKS, Lyotard...) Now they are adjusted to smooth running, these are likely to last a long time as long as the bearing cups and races are decent quality. ... show more

These pedals do NOT have ball bearings. I was hesitant because it has journal type bearings, as my old ones had ball bearings. They are a tiny bit tight the first couple rides, but now they spin very easy. I like the large “foot-print” and I like how the bearings are situated widely apart. I purchased one of these sets. Defective assembly. Would not spend freely. So I Loosen the nuts on the one that would not spend freely. To see if that was all the problem? It didn't. So I took it completely apart. There was one bearing missing from the assembly. So as you know it cannot be return for a refund once you open it up. That didn't matter I explained that to the seller but the seller never got back to me. Pretty crappy customer service if you ask me.
