Well, here we go again! Me & the wife got ourselves a nice Christmas present of a 60 inch Plasma Smart TV for the living room (plasma vs LED? 600Hz refresh rate for football games!!!) and needed a stronger mount than what was holding up the old 40 inch TV. Once again, I researched, read and studied. My last TV mount from Amazon was such a good buy, I wasn't sure I could beat it, but i did! For less than $40 delivered (!) we got this mount which met all the standards we were looking for. Plasma TVs are heavier than LED, this one is over 80 pounds, but the mount is rated for over TWICE that at 175 lbs! I compared to Cheetah, which used to get high reviews, but seem to have changed their design to a 2 piece backplate (to save on shipping), and I prefer the one piece back plate of this Mount-It unit, it just seems stronger... So we mounted it, to 3 wall studs vs the 2 the last mount used, using the original 2 holes, and adding 4 more, so 2 rows of 3 lag bolts each hold this thing up. Same routine as before, drill a pilot hole for the bolts, use soap to lubricate the threads, use a rachet wrench vs power driver to avoid stripping threads, check the mount with a Bubble Level before tightening down. Yes, the unit has its own level, but some reviewers said it wasn't accurate, so we double checked with a long carpenters level. The Mount-It bubble level was right on as well. So the unit is straight and well fastened, and it is not going ANYwhere... Mounted the rails to the TV, and got it hung on the mount without to much trouble. Now the only negative about this mount... There are 2 screws that must be run UP behind the mount to keep the TV from being able to come off the mount. There is VERY little clearance behind the TV when hung, certainly not enough to get your hand and arm behind it with a screwdriver. I had to use a screwdriver that was about 18 inches long to reach up and find the screw, using a flashlight and patience, but got both screws snugged up. The Tilt function would be difficult to adjust also, but I just adjusted both rails to full tilt and snugged them BEFORE I hung the TV, so it wasn't an issue for us. The TV is high on the wall, and angled down, and we both find the view fine from both a recliner and the sofa, no problems there. The last thing was running all the cables through a flat vinyl conduit that matches the wall, so no cables or wires are visible. A fairly easy job, took all of about 1.5 hours (taking our time, measuring thrice and drilling once), and just the 2 of us, no professionals required! Mount-It came with ALL the hardware for several different mount scenerios, sizes, lengths, spacers, etc. I didn't need anything other than what came in the box, except for tools. (for less than $40?!) There are even provisions for installing on concrete or brick walls, something I would hate to tackle myself... All in all, a nice heavy duty mount for less than half of the local department stores pricing, and free delivery, and it far exceeds the required weight specs for our new TV, and best of all, you can't even SEE it, it is nice and close to the wall. I used the Mount-It Ultra Low Profile Wall Mount Kit on my LG 47LM4600 which weighs approx. 60 pounds. This was the first time I attempted to mount a television to a wall and I must say after I got past the hesitation of putting my tv on the wall the install took right at an hour to complete. A few tips on how I installed my tv above my fireplace: First step is to locate the studs (2 at least 16" apart) that you will be mounting to. I would highly recommend using a stud finder to try and locate the edges of the studs (which you will need to validate by nailing a thin nail into the wall to ensure it is an actual stud). Once you find the edges of the studs mark the exact center as this is essential for the install. After this, perform the install. The first step is to attach the two brackets to your television (kit came with several screw sizes to fit most all tvs). After you have attached the brackets take the wall plate and decide exactly how you want to align to the center of your studs (the wall plate is made of very durable metal and has many many holes so you can decide exactly how you want to align to your studs). The wall plate has a built in leveler but I would highly recommend using an actual leveler as the one in the kit is accurate but not exact. Then drill a hole for your first screw, plate the wall plate back up and screw your first screw until its nearly screwed all the way in. Once you are at that point take the leveler and decide exactly where your second screw needs to go to ensure perfect alignment. Once you have decided, drill the hole and install the other 3 screws. Ensure level as you go (the wall plate will tend to move as you tighten). Once you have all 4 screws in, grab your tv and hook onto the mount! You can adjust the brackets to tilt forward up to 12 degrees which is very nice for me considering mine is mounted above a fireplace and is higher than normal viewing angle. Very secure and sturdy feeling mount. Extremely low profile makes it hard to work behind my 46 inch Toshiba TV. After mounting I decided to take it back off of the wall, placed it face down on a blanket on my electronics cabinet and plugged everything in securely before mounting it on the wall. It makes for a very nice close to the wall look. The TV power plug barely fits behind the TV, and I'm looking for a surge protector that will fit behind the TV. It will either need to be a small one with a chord or a very slim one with side mounted plugs. It was easy to attach bracket to the wall with included instructions. Don't be overwhelmed by the large amount of screws and washers included, they all fit different TVs. Also don't get rid of the extra hardware if you want to use this mount with future TV purchases. I wasn't sure what to do with the 2 different sized "spacers" included. Instructions list allen key on the parts list, but there are no allen key bolts in this kit. Do not rely on the included attached bubble level, it would have made my TV mount tilted quite a bit to the left, more than could be accounted for with the little bit of wiggle room once bolts are in place loosely tightened. Things I needed: Level Drill 3/16" Drill Bit Stud Finder 1/2" socket wrench Philips screwdriver I mounted this to wood studs 16" on center and it was easier than I thought it would be. Update: I got a new 65 inch Samsung ks8000 TV and all I had to do was swap the TV mounts over to my new TV. The mount still works great. ... show more
