Love the features of this light! After 35 years of having the original ugly outdoor light on the back of my house, I decided it was time for a change. I was looking for a stylish motion sensor light and came across this one. The best thing about it is that it’s not only attractive, but the light has three different modes from which to choose. First (PC mode): Off at dawn, on at dusk. Light remains on at full brightness all night. Second (Auto mode): Off at dawn. After dusk, light remains off until motion is detected, then turns on at full brightness for preset number of minutes, or while motion is still detected. Light then turns off completely after no motion detected. Third (Auto+ mode): (my favorite) Off at dawn, then lights at dusk, but at a lower percentage such as 25% brightness (which is also adjustable). Once motion is detected, light goes to full brightness for preset number of minutes, then back to 25% brightness after no motion detected. The third setting allows you to have a dimmer light all night long, using less energy, and only goes to full brightness when motion is detected. This is particularly nice when you’d like to have a light on all night, but don’t want to have it so bright that it disturbs your neighbors. In addition to the three modes, you can also adjust 1) the number of minutes the light stays on after motion is detected, 2) the range of the motion detection area, and 3) the percentage the light dims in the Auto+ mode (0% to 50%). All the setting are easily accessible under the decorative finial cap on the top of the lamp. The mode setting is changed by moving the finger switch from side to side, but to adjust the other settings, you’ll need a very small flat head screwdriver (the cheap jeweler screwdriver set from the Dollar Store works just fine.) Installation was super easy, once I found a mounting plate for it. Our builder mounted the junction box on the outside of the concrete wall instead of recessing it, which did not allow mounting the new lamp flush against the concrete, but after installing the mounting plate, it went together easily. You’ll need to apply silicone caulk around the light base (and around any mounting block, if using one) to keep the elements out and avoid problems down the road. The bulb that was included is one of those very cool Edison bulbs, which I installed initially. But the light it throws in our back yard seems too dim, so I’m trying the same wattage in a frosted LED bulb to see if it makes a difference. If you do swap the included bulb for an LED bulb and you want to use the Auto+ mode, make sure you buy a dimmable LED; otherwise, the manufacturer states the light will flicker when brightness is reduced. Fingers crossed this light continues to perform well and lasts as long as my first one! 11/30/21 UPDATE: Well, after just a few short weeks, the feature I liked best seems to no longer function. I really liked the setting where it would come on full brightness when motion was detected, then would dim to a lesser level with no motion. This setting no longer works. The light stays on bright all the time. Unacceptable to have this malfunction so soon in the life of the light. Buyer beware if that’s the feature that makes you choose this light over another. Love this. Sometimes I come home late and forget to turn on the outside light. Since this has a sensor, I no longer have to try to unlock the door in the dark. The light fixture has a very nice style. It was pretty easy to install. I was able to do by myself but with a second person, it would have been slightly easier. I am very happy with my purchase.
