Features

  • STRONG IN CONSTRUCTION - Swing: 5.5"/140 mm. The dividing head features a rigid mirror finish that is wear-resistant, a good choice for long time use. Its delicate parts together work perfectly, mathematically dividing the materials to be cut.
  • EASE OF ADJUSTMENT - The headstock of the dividing head for milling machine can tilt from 10 below horizontal to 90 vertical so that you can handle the stuff of different sizes by changing its angle.
  • WITH HIGH PRECISION - The universal dividing head comes with a direct indexing plate and an interchangeable one which is on the head, and two replacement interchangeable ones with different numbers of holes on them. It's the dividing plates that set the precise distance between cuttings.
  • STRONG WORKPIECE SUPPORT - The coming package also includes a tailstock which will give strong support to the long metal stick you are gonna deal with, providing a more stable working condition.
  • WIDE APPLICATION - The rotary indexer is used on the tables of milling machines and other machine tools including drill presses, grinders, and boring machines.

  • Headstock Taper is not #7 B&S
Style: Dividing Head
This is a very nice dividing head for the money. Pretty well finished and smooth operating, very little lash in the gearing. If you were thinking to use an ER32 chuck in the headstock taper note that the taper is #2 Morse not #7B&S as stated in the specifications. That is really good news given that the ER32 chuck adapter for #2 Morse is much cheaper than the #7 B&S. They are also available with 10mm drawbar threads so you can eliminate the chance of slipping in the taper. I checked the run-out specifications and found the following: Radial run-out of the spindle nose spec 0.0006" Actual <0.0002" Radial run-out of spindle taper nose spec 0.0008" Actual was about 0.001" Radial run-out of spindle taper hole 4" distant 0.0014" Actual was 0.0025" Radial run-out of test bar with 3-jaw chuck 0.0031" Actual was 0.003" So the specs were pretty close and my measurements might not be perfect. The run-out with the 3-jaw chuck was due the the chuck back-plate (spindle nose locating diameter had <0.0002 TIR). The locating diameter for the chuck had a run-out of 0.0025". That could be corrected by taking a few thousandths off the locating diameter, center the chuck and use the mounting screws to lock it in. ... show more

  • It is great. WOW!
Style: Dividing Head
I haven't actually used this for anything yet. I did however disassemble and check everything. Initial run-out was 7-10 thousandths and I was disappointed. I then installed the dead center and checked run-out and it was .0005 in. OK. that is great! I then re-installed the chuck and chucked in some ground drill rod and now run-out is .00025 in. WOW! Backlash is adjustable and was nearly perfect. The index plates look accurate so dividing should be accurate as well. I couldn't be happier with the value and the quality far exceeds my expectations. I was surprised there is no lock on the face plate to the spindle, not having used an dividing head before, I have no idea if this is normal. so while it's is possible to drive this up to 2400 rpm (its in the manual) there is no lock to keep the chuck on the face plate so turning something in reverse could unscrew the chuck. I'm not driving it so I don't care. I've paid nearly the same price for my MT-2 JT3 Jacobs chuck (super ball bearing chuck and arbor) for my drill and it has more run-out than this table. ... show more

  • If you are new to dividing heads.
Style: Dividing Head
Like most said, you have to take it apart and clean it. Why they add grit to the grease is beyond me. After cleaning it, it worked a lot smoother, very little back lash and about .0005 run out. Only issue, i was using down pressure only to mark graduations on a one inch aluminum knob, i noticed some springiness when i applied pressure (about .015). It's not the chuck or spindle, the whole head moves at the pivot point. I think it's the brass locks, they are cut poorly and don't seat well. The tail stock helped this time but, you can't always use it. If i can't fix it, back it goes. Oh, if you never used a dividing head, don't even open the owners manual, it will only pizz you off. Google it, you will find vids on how to clean and use it. Save the charts in the back of the manual, it dose not tell you what they mean but, you should be able to figure them out later. they are handy short cuts. Up date: i was right, had to reseat the brass also readjust the end play. Still only a four star, having to adjust it is one thing, having to take it apart and clean is not acceptable. ... show more

  • good little divider
Style: Dividing Head
This unit went into a shop that supports both a museum and a low volume commercial small job shop, so I did not expect to be doing divider work very often. However, I have found it to be very versital and its low profile makes it easy to add to the BP table along side the mill vise. My only complaints are that the tilt feature does not have a shot pin at either the 90 or 0 degree position and the jaws are not soft-jaw compatible. The tilt issue means that the chuck needs to be dialed in whenever it is moved and that it can be knocked out of tram just under normal operation. The soft-jaw problem is not really fixable, its just nice to be able to use soft jaws for delicate work. Despite these minor issues, its a good value for the money and I can see that it will be a workhorse in my shop. ... show more

  • Backlash issues, big time.
Style: Dividing Head
Ok so I’ve had it apart on the bench cleaning up all of the sloppy edges, grime, etc. This I expected to have to do. Wow! was I amazed to find that the worm assembly was out of round enough to make it impossible to eliminate backlash throughout the entire 360 of rotation. When backlash is almost brought out on the tight side there is enough backlash on the sloppy side that one may chose any one of three indexing holes ( on a 43 div! ) without actually changing the spindle angle. So you can’t really call it a dividing head can you? More like an expensive tilting spin indexer. This is what I get for expecting real tools from amazon. I know that it is possible to work around this backlash issue by using same dir of rotation, blah blah blah but sometimes I might want to go back and repeat a hole or whatever and it becomes a pain in the chinesium. Overall it Is what you would expect for the price. Oh and just for entertainment value. The tolerances inspection sheet , yes there is one, is printed out with all of the numbers already on it. As well as the stamp of the person who inspected it. So it was never actually inspected. In some places that alone would be a legal fraud. Sadly we expect this now as normal. My last few Amazon tools were this way. I am no longer surprised. ... show more
