  • Could be GREAT, but having some issues and not getting great support...
Color: Brown Monogrammed
Final Update: It took a little more time than the instructions indicated, but now a couple weeks in, and the humidity has leveled out. I've got it tuned in to about 68%, and it is holding nicely. I'm very pleased with it. Support was very helpful and responsive. You just need to be patient. Update: I've added a star, as their customer service really is pretty good. They've consistently responded to me and checked in from time to time. They even called me today to talk through my "issues" and try to help me get it resolved. Ultimately, the humidor is working GREAT! Since my "problem" is too much humidity, that means the box is doing it's job really well, and it does look very nice. Also, I'm learning that the hygrometer in any unit should be calibrated the second you get it (I think they should mention that and provide instructions in the box), as they rarely seem to be accurate out of the box. They're also fairly cheap, so buying a second hygrometer and calibrating it to double-check is smart. It sounds like I can play around a bit with the solution and crystals to try and fine tune my humidity to my liking, otherwise, it is within their advertised spec, so it's working as it was designed. Original: I would love to leave this a 5-star review. It wasn't cheap, but was nicely finished and looks good. It seems to have a good seal, which is important with a seasoned humidor. The monogram is great and looks really slick! Now for the not so great. - Following the instructions, humidity is way too high - Instructions are inaccurate about where humidity should be during seasoning - Hygrometer was not calibrated, and there aren't included instructions to calibrate it - The accessory drawer sits very loose, and can be off to either side if not closed with precision - seems like it was built too small for the box - Frustrating that the directions say they "don't recommend with Boveda packs" - that would make things so much simpler than messing with their complicated hydro tray system, and it's unclear why their humidor wouldn't work good with Boveda when so many others do - Support is prompt (through their website, not Amazon), but not very detailed. I gave excessive details as to what I had done, and then got a two sentence response. - Pretty expensive comparted to a lot of the competition on Amazon, and I'm not sure I'm getting what I paid for I followed the directions to a "T" for seasoning. It said to have it "above 70% for 1-3 days" (though their site says 3-5 days). However, mine was at 84% after less than a day, so I contacted their support team. By the time they got back to me, later that day, it was at 87%. I asked if that was okay since the instructions say "above 70%", which 87% is. The response was not very clear, and seemed a bit lazy (lacking detail) after the great detail I provided. They indicated that I should remove the hydro tray until it settled back down to 72%. I did that, then put the tray back in, and it shot back up. I emailed them again, and also indicated that the included hygrometer was off. I asked for help calibrating or replacing that, as well as what to do about the humidity still being really high. I got what I felt was another lazy response, just saying to to press the button on the hygrometer to calibrate it with a kit (no explanation of what that meant or links to how to do that). Also, there was not response to be still elevated humidity. I emailed again, explaining that I needed more details about this process, and was given a quick explanation, and a link to all of their videos (page two of the link included a link to calibrate the hygrometer). I followed the instructions, and the hygrometer still seems to be inaccurate next to others I have that all read the same in the humidor. And regardless, it's still 78% humidity. I was also told I could share my phone number and they would be happy to talk me through it. I replied again, sharing my phone number, and an updated status of the steps I've taken, that have now got the humidity down to 75-76% consistently. That still seems high to me, so I asked for advice, but haven't heard back. It's not looking like I'll be able to add my cigars still, as I don't want to mess them up, so I guess I'll continue waiting. If they don't get things clearly resolved before my return period expires, I'll probably return it and go with something else. Even with these issues, it could be great, but the follow through seems a little lacking, and the instructions could be much more precise. Still, probably better than most, but it's not like this was $30. It was near the price I could pay at a cigar shop for a similarly sized one without the monograming, which was just a slight bonus and not a selling point. ... show more

  • Exactly as Described
Color: Dark brown
I ordered this humidor after researching the best 'budget' (under $200) ones out there. This one was at the top of a lot of lists, and I can see why. The dark finish, glass top, accessory tray, and framed digital hygrometer make this a showpiece type humidor. You'll be happy to have it on display for guests. More importantly, it seems to be really well built to maintain proper RH for your cigars. The Spanish cedar smells great, and should help regulate the RH. The hydro tray humidifier seems pretty straightforward and should be an economical way to maintain RH. The lid is very tight fitting, so I don't see anticipate too much RH loss there. When I received the humidor it was registering an RH in the mid 40s. I seasoned it according to the instructions, and it was loaded with cigars and maintaining proper humidity in less than a week. Re: capacity, the description is accurate. Most of my cigars range from 50-60 ring gauge and various lengths. I have 20 cigars in the humidor now, and could comfortably fit another 10. This humidor won't hold a large collection, and it's not intended to. I plan to use it to showcase and age 20 or 30 of my sticks, with my daily smokers hidden away in a less showy tupperdor. You won't be disappointed if you buy this piece. The product is great, and the customer service is as well. Jon and the rest of the CE team were very responsive to my questions when I was researching this product, and have proactively reached out to me since my purchase to ensure that the product was received and that I encountered no issues with getting it ready for cigars. I don't anticipate having any problems, but I'm confident that the CE team will work with me to make it right if I do. ... show more

  • makes a stunning first humidor
Color: Brown Monogrammed
I got into cigars in a big way years ago. Like many people, I started with a desktop humidor like this one and later graduated to a much larger system with active cooling and humidity control. But every so often I would head to my best friend's house with a couple cigars from my collection in my old desktop unit and gradually he started expressing an interest in starting his own collection. So this year for his birthday I bought him this humidor, seasoned it for him and added about a dozen cigars from my collection as a starter sampler. I also added a three flame torch, a V and straight cutter, and a package of 60 gram Boveda bags. It went over well, and here are the things I think contributed the most to the wow factor: 1. The personalized etching. I know that many people frown on glass top humidors with passive humidity control systems, and I tend to agree they don't always function the best, but it's hard to ignore the shear aesthetic value of a glass window with a family name etched into it shadowing down onto the cigars. It just looks classy and sophisticated, and let's face it that is at least part of the fun of getting into fine cigars and liquor. In any case, I seasoned it for a week and it held its humidity nicely the entire time. 2. The accessories shelf. Particularly for someone new to the hobby, you might not want all the various tools spread out everywhere; you want a self-contained unit that you can pickup and bring to wherever you are planning to enjoy a cigar with minimal muss and fuss. 3. The digital hygrometer. This was a BIG selling point for me as I'm well aware of how utterly useless those analog hygrometers are. In my experience the least accurate digital model is more accurate than the most accurate analog and the first thing I always do with a new humidor is ditch the analog for a digital replacement, so I really appreciated being able to skip that step and have it look fit and trim with the construction of the box. 4. The overall construction. As anyone with experience knows, humidors have a wide range in price, even in desktop units. Given that a quality desktop humidor can cost $1000 or more, anything in the ~$100 price range would probably only qualify as a nice entry level model at best. Absolutely nothing wrong with that; there is a strong decreasing return on investment as you climb above that price, with refinements that will likely go unnoticed by most anyway. So what I wanted to see is construction that feels solid, with precision that passes the finger test (run your finger along the edges of the humidor, does it feels smooth and even?), the dollar bill test (is the seal on the lid tight enough to hold a dollar bill?), and smooth action on the hinges (does it wobble and creak when you open and close the lid or silently turn?). This unit feels solid, and the faux walnut finish looks nice, without ripples or chipping or loose edges. In short, I think you could place this on any nice executive desk without it looking at all out of place. My only real gripe with the humidor is in the instructions, where they try and convince the owner that somehow Boveda packs, despite being an industry standard and staple, just don't work with this humidor. This is almost certainly in the service of selling you an ongoing supply of humidor liquid, a high-margin product they push heavily in the product literature. The problem is that liquids alone tend to over humidify a box, and while they do supply a tiny bag of gel beads with the humidor, their humidification system is clearly based upon liquid in a tray which isn't great. I recommended that my friend toss the tray and replace it with Boveda packs which will provide better overall performance, at a rate of one 60 gram bag per 10 cigars, rounding up. So the bottom line is I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone looking for their first humidor or as a gift of same. It provides a handsome looking place to store up to 20 or so cigars (I wouldn't try and cram more in there unless they are smaller cigars) along with the accessories you'll need, and should be able to keep your cigars in fine shape if stored in a temperature controlled environment out of direct sunlight even if you only use it once every couple of months. Anyone who takes a daily cigar or expands to a larger collection, however, may find that keeping the humidity high enough is a challenge for any desktop unit and should consider getting a separate humidor that they can fill the desktop unit from once a week since desktop humidors don't handle frequent access well. ... show more
