Description

This bike was built for hauling. You can take it all with you on the Envoy by Mongoose. The Envoy features an extended frame and plenty of cargo attachment options, so you can carry whatever you need, from groceries and spare clothes to guitar cases and Skateboards. The Envoy also includes a Tectonic T1 aluminum cargo frame with internal cable routing for superior strength and minimal cable clutter. The 3x8 drivetrain with Shimano Altus/Tourney Derailleurs and Shimano fez-fire shifter provide plenty of gears for hauling heavier cargo. Mechanical disc brakes with 180mm front and 160mm rear rotors deliver superior stopping power. Plus, the envoy’s 26x2. 35" Tires provide increased control and a more stable ride. My cargo bike of 15 years (Xtracycle) was stolen and I looked for a replacement. So sad to see E-bikes overwhelming the options for basic simple cargo bikes. This bike perfectly fits a basic need. I really hope this brand sticks with this bicycle and keeps it on the market. Please keep it available and don't give up. It will grow in popularity and we need it. Review: Frame is super strong without excess extra weight. Significantly more stiff than my earlier bicycle. Offering two sizes is sufficient for most males. Could make a woman specific. Cable disc breaks are more than sufficient. No need to complicate a cargo bike. This is my daily work commuter, shopping, and entertainment. The bags look great. Unfortunately they look better than they perform. Too rigid and doesn't expand for larger needs. The tops are terrible. While they are water proof, the tops don't allow riding while open (sticks out like wings). Beautiful but not useful enough. If you keep this bike, and you should, the excellent frame allow for more alternative bags either factory or after market. Publish the designs and promote accessories, (xtracycle did this amazingly) As to geometry, the rear wheel should be pushed back about 10 cm or more. The frame length is fine but the wheel is just slightly too far forward, and it is possible to load weight too much behind the wheel. The kickstand is a nice idea but totally doesn't keep the bike upright. The slightest wind knocks the bike over. Lifts front wheel too far off ground too. Even with these design suggestions, please commit to this bicycle segment. You are really onto something. Given an aggressive price, amazon distribution makes sense. Many bike shops could also benefit from having this but they don't all give floor space to cargo. Amazon, or direct, justifies this bike. I am very happy and will recommend this bike. ... show more

    • Exactly what I wanted/needed

The media could not be loaded. I got this bike to go to work every day... increase my physical activity and as insurance in this crazy world we live in. I'm only about 2 miles from work... so with the increase in gas prices and my waist line, I decided to address both problems. The envoy was perfect for me because I can carry what I need to work and plan on using it to go to the local farmer's market... and even groceries. I is surprisingly light for the size. I thought 24 speeds seemed overkill but it really gives me a choice depending on the grade of road I'm on. I like the wide tires.. it is very quiet and smooth to ride. It is a well made bike. What is not made of aluminum seems to be stainless steel. Rust will not be a problem. Assembly takes time but is not rocket science to figure out. They could have better instructions to show exactly the orientation of parts and order of assembly. I used one of the YouTube videos to help with assembly. The shipper had damaged one of the peddle arms and customer service had the parts I needed shipped out the same day. Their service is located in the US with a person you can understand clearly. I feel as if Mongoose will be there when needed. I highly recommend this bike if you need a utilitarian / cargo bike. UPDATE - Its been about 2 months now I've been riding every work day but maybe 2 or 3. I did get new pedals for it and it was a good upgrade. So far, so good. I'm still amazed how fast I can ride my 1.7 miles into work and back. I'm 63 and was really out of shape, but now have this as my daily exercise routine. I really enjoy it too. I've put an Olight front and rear light for visibility and two mirrors on the handlebar ends and feel very safe as I ride.     • Good deal, but still needs extra work
This is a good bike. Especially for this price range, and for being a cargo bike. Its solid, overall well built, and looks great. It is worth buying and I am happy with my purchase Unfortunately, it is not perfect but that is to be expected at this price. What does it need? The brakes barely work and should be replaced with hydraulics. The 3x8 gear setup is not a good fit for this bike, and the chainline is very bad. The handlebars are extremely narrow and wont work very well for wide shouldered people. The pedals are trash, dont even bother installing them. Grips feel ok, but also feel really cheap, and they are not lock-ons which will eventually be a problem. The stickers on the bike are cheap looking, but they peel right off. The screws they include, and use on the bike, are low quality and will bend or strip easy. I will be converting mine to electric with a bbshd motor. I am replacing the brakes with shimano altus hydraulic, the gears will be a 1x8 with a 42t chainring with a Alivio shifter, and I am replacing the stem with an adjustable. I will probably have to replace the handlebar because its too narrow, but I am going to test it out first. ... show more

A bicycle is my sole means of transportation. I ordered the Mongoose Envoy to upgrade from my previous bike. The Envoy rides smooth, shifts effortlessly without any further adjustment, and brakes as it should. Putting it together isn't that hard. I was worried about it being damaged during shipment, but it was packaged really well, so no worries there. The rear brake needed a minor adjustment to brake with a bit more force. This bike is my new "car" and it doesn't let me down. I cycle 11 miles to work (22 round trip) five days a week, so please believe me when I tell you that the Mongoose Envoy is definitely worth it. Sure, it's heavy and slow compared to the weight and nimbleness of my Trek, but that's to be expected due to the type of bike that it is. What it lacks in speed and nimbleness, it makes up for in comfort, ease of shifting, and cargo weight capacity. Oh yeah, I pack quite a bit. Buy it, enjoy it.
