  • Outstanding bike for the money!
Color: Black Size: Medium Frame
I could've bought something more expensive, but this was the only fat tire bike I could find with the double rows of wheel cutouts, which are very nice and make the wheels lighter. Plus in all the reviews here and on YouTube, everyone seemed to love it and have no complaints? So it seemed like a solid choice. And you know what? All the good reviews are RIGHT! This bike is awesome!!! Just got back from the inaugural ride down to some local parks and trails. Rides like a dream!!! Love it!!!! 🤩🥰 ... show more

  • Well equipped fat bike for the price
Color: Black Size: Medium Frame
I live in New England and riding indoors gets old, fast. So I took the plunge and bought a Mongoose Argus Sport fat bike. I had originally ordered a Mongoose Dolomite as my entry to fat biking, but I changed my mind after looking at the Argus. The Dolomite's gearing just isn't suitable for off road use, particularly in snow where you will need seriously low gearing to keep moving. My Argus has a 28T single chainring, and a 46T max gear in the VERY wide ratio 10 speed cluster. This translates into plenty of climbing capability and low speed power despite pedaling a fairly heavy bicycle. You won't cover a lot of ground in a hurry - in the highest gear I ran out gas around 20 mph or so on the road with this low gearing. But I didn't buy it to ride on pavement! So what is it like to ride? The gigantic 4.8" wide tires seem almost cartoonish at first, like you just stole a bike from Batman. On a paved multi use trail you won't have to say "on your left" any more because folks will hear you coming a mile away from the tire noise. Off road it feels capable enough, but not having ridden flat pedals in....decades....I wasn't feeling too confident in the rough stuff. The Tekro hydraulic brakes are excellent. The drivetrain works well - derailleurs have come a long way since my mountain biking days - no chain slap at all, even on some pretty rough rooted/rocky downhills. Shifting was quick and accurate. TL/DR? A ton of bicycle for the money. Reliving my childhood? Priceless! 5 stars. Edit: after a couple of weeks of rides the bike developed some strange noises. I discovered that both the front and rear hubs were very lightly greased and that the bearing preload was excessively tight. The front wheel would only spin freely 3 or four times before stopping. The non-sealed bearings are easy to service, and I larded them up with grease to reduce the possibility of water intrusion. Now both wheels will spin for quite a while before stopping on their own. Check those bearings when assembling your bike! ... show more

  • Welllll it’s pretty good!
Color: Black Size: Medium Frame
Everything was pretty much perfect after assembly. I ended up installing a seat dropper post and new pedals. The only issue I have is there is play in my crank. So almost every time I pedal it makes an annoying knocking sound and I can feel it in my feet. I’m considering reaching out to Mongoose and see if there is anything they can do. I put over 30 miles on this bike and I am satisfied with its performance, just slightly disappointed with the play in the crank. ... show more

  • A excellent trail worthy fat bike!
Color: Black Size: Medium Frame
Let me start by saying how nervous I was about ordering this bike. I second guessed my purchase from the moment I placed my order. I wasn't sure a MED frame would work for me since I'm 5'10 and mostly ride a large frame mountain bike but this thing fits like a glove! It's actually roomier then my large Framed Minnesota fat bike it replaced. The brakes are awesome! Easy 1 finger stopping. The bike weighted in at 35.87 pounds on my bike scale but the gearing is really good and grinds it's way up hills with ease. It's routed for a dropper post (I plan on ordering one). My first ride on the bike was a 11 mile single track loop and it performed flawlessly. The big tires make easy work of rocks and roots. The geometry is very comfortable and makes it easy to ride aggressively. Overall I would recommend this bike to anyone wanting a serious trail worthy fat bike for less money then most. ... show more

  • Exceptional Fat Bike that doesn’t break the bank
Color: Black Size: Large Frame
I wanted to get back to riding a bicycle mostly for exercise reasons, and I want to note that since my late teens I hadn’t used one and I am 52 now, so you do the math… :) so I wanted to get a bike that let me relieve the excitement of those days. When I asked my friends who are very active in the MTB scene about getting a Mongoose, they told me that the brand wasn’t what it used to be when we were growing up. “The brand got sold to Team Pacific and they have dropped the ball in quality standards. You are better off with a Fuji or a Trek or a {insert expensive brand here}. So I went on to do some research and and none of the bikes they recommended were in my budget. Trek’s were minimum in the $1500 range and up. Other brands the same, so I went back to the brand I knew and did some research to see what exactly was so bad about it. I could t find anything on the reviews I saw that was a glaring red flag and the price for this bike was reasonable for the components it brought. Oh and why the fat tire? I like to try new things, and I had heard a lot about what a comfortable ride it was. The bike comes disassembled in a giant 4’ tall by 6’ long box. The guide is fairly well described and in 20 minutes or so you can have the bike assembled. The tires came prefilled with the right amount of air. When I took the frame out it was super light given the frame is Aluminum more on this in a bit. I am 6’4” and I had to lower the seating and raise the handle bar of the bike to begin with. I don’t think I had driven such a tall bike before. But as far as the ride it’s really good at least for non pro me, the gears help with the rough terrain and because the bike frame is so light the fat tires compensate maneuvering through rough terrain. My backyard is almost like a box park, I have hills and slopes and flat areas and while I’m still working on the hills, I can pretty much run this over grass and mud without breaking a sweat. The bike has disc breaks and you get amazing control when on surfaces where you wouldn’t be able to slow down otherwise. The only original component I changed was the bike’s seat because I don’t have much of a butt and that thing was brutal. I got a cloud nine seat and I’m good. After riding this bike for a couple of weeks I have come to understand why you would want to spend some extra money and get a decent bike. I could have gotten a $300 bike with crappy components and super heavy frame, and then in the upcoming months spend more money in replacement parts that would anyways raise the investment higher. But I went with this one because for $1000 it gave me all I wanted and then some on a bike. I have to admit that I’m restricting myself to my backyard for now, I feel regardless the bike I had gotten the balance aspect is something I need to get worked on, so I’m not falling on the neighbors thorn uh thing on the side fence lol but whatever, I’m doing more exercise I have done I. Years voluntarily and I’m having a blast. ... show more
