There are couple misinformation on the other reviews I like to clear up. 1. The pen is neo smartpen with Moleskine branding on the pen, it still works with the Neo Smartpen notebooks. 2. You don't have to buy exclusively moleskine smart notebook. You can buy the one from Neo. N professional mini has 200 pages with 80g/sq m paper, Moleskin has 176 with 100g/sq m paper. Moleskine does cost more but see #3 3. Smartpen company do want to make money off selling notebooks and special paper, but you can now print your own! Go to neosmartpen.com, look for the Ncode PDF at the bottom, there are 13 different types of format you can print with your own printer and everything still works. The only extra step is now you have to also download the app from Neo, which is really the same app. If you just want to capture what you've wrote and don't want to pay for notebook, printing your own Ncode sheets is pretty awesome. Remember to print actual size, any resizing or shrinking to margin will make the pen less likely to capture everything. Going back to this moleskine smart writing set. It works pretty well. Not 100% of everything is captured, I say pretty close to 95%. Occasionally missing a stroke in a letter, that flaw doesn't make this pen useless, it's just not perfect. So it's 4 stars. I'm pretty happy with this product. ------------update----------------- After using it for a week, sometimes the pen fails to pick up anything, like less than 30%. I had to restart the pen, re-insert the ink, restart the app, then it goes back to the normal capture rate which is still not 100%. For that reason, revising to 3 star. It's great when it works. Works most of the time, but when it doesn't, you need waste a page writing "test, test, test"...until you restart the right thing for it to work again. ... show more

The Moleskine Smart Writing set is ambitious but obviously not something the company cares about supporting. Their support site promises 48 hour response time, but after multiple e-mails there is no communication. The pen works intermittently then stops altogether (it locks in my sentence, therefore, you have a page or so of digital content transfer and the rest is lost). It's a nice toy, and a novel idea and its too bad Moleskine doesn't care about their reputation where this product is concerned. Tried to call the 800 number, didn't go through. Emails not responded to, and the chat feature on the website is there but grayed out (no clickable link). My patronage of this company is now at an end - their concern for their customers where this product is nil. Very disappointed. ... show more

I love Moleskine products and I love the idea. This product didn't work out for me. When I would write in the Moleskine smart notebook 90% of the time the words would not transfer over to my app. I tried playing around with the sensitivity settings and also rewriting some of my notes.     • Pretty bad product - Does not copy all my notes.
I tried it for 3 weeks and wrote 15 - 20 pages. About 25% of my writing did not properly transfer to my electronic notebook. I tried writing very slow and extra clear, but not everything copied. I played with the sensitivity settings, but nothing seemed to help. It's a shame becasue I really liked this concept. I returned the product after 3 weeks. Thanks to Amazon for promptly paying me back. Based on my experience I cannot recommend this product. ... show more

    • Transcription and pen battery poor
I was so excited about this product! It would have made my work life so much easier. Unfortunately, it is a much better idea in theory than in reality. The pen has a poor battery life and only lasted through about half a meeting. My strokes were not properly captured more than about 80% of the time, so I had to go back and fill in stuff constantly. I would have been ok with those two problems if the transcription had worked... but it didnt! It is so bad that it will take me more time to fix it than to just type it up from the start. Too bad there is no handwriting recognition software in the app that can "learn" my handwriting as of yet! I spoke to support and they said they are working on it. So who knows - maybe in a year or two this will be a good product. Right now it isnt. ... show more

Bought this unit and it worked ok for awhile. I used it for a time without syncing with the app....it is supposed to store up to 1000 pages. When I synced to the app it loaded the 30 or so pages that were stored in the pen but mysteriously the font was white which caused the pages to appear blank. I had to edit each page to changed the writing to black but bits and pieces were missing all through the writing. I tried various ways to reload to data from the pen but eventually realized that I simply do not have the time to deal with the app, the pen, trying to sync over more than one device.....all in all frustrating tech for sure. Love the idea but the product is literally flaky and maddening.... I literally just threw it in the garbage. I could try and send it back and try again but I feel this will be more wasted time for me. I have no desire to deal with warranty and return policies. I would rather cut my losses, kiss my 200 bucks goodbye and move on. The most satisfying part of this experience was making a three pointer into the garbage can. ... show more

My daughter requested this as a moleskin as a gift to start graduate school this fall, when I read the reviews I was a little concerned. We got it any way. It was disappointing. The word capture from the pad to the computer was sporadic. Moleskin needs to troubleshoot and fix this product. We returned it. ... show more

Doesn't work for me - you have to have the pen "on" to begin writing which isn't always as easy as you might think. Instead of just picking up the pen you have to remember to turn it on. As far as sending the info to my computer - I had hoped to transcribe my handwriting and then have it nicely in a word doc in text format but it didn't really work out. You have to first put it into a text file or something like "notes". Then you have to send it to word and the format isn't compatible. I then have to do so much spacing and general formatting that it isn't worth it. I gave it away to my admin. He is seeing if it works for him. ... show more
