The colors are quite translucent. The light is also finicky and goes in and out on me and sometimes I have to fiddle with it to work. The forms are pretty curved and don’t work very well with flatter nails which can cause bubbles or overflow onto the skin (pushing hard on the form to make it fit, which pushes the color out and makes the color more translucent) It takes practice and can be quite frustrating. Do 1 nail at a time and take your time….you will probably re-do a couple. The easiest way to do it is to apply the base coat, cure, then put a dollop of color directly on the nail, not the form! Push the form down until the color reaches the cuticle and is at the desired length, then use the provided clamps to hold in place. use the metal scraper to take off any overflow on the skin, and use the brush with slip solution to even out the underneath part of your nail (it will cure really thick and be annoying if you don’t). Cure, pop the form off, apply slip solution all over, file, and apply top coat. Move onto the next nail. I hope this helps someone. ... show more

Bought this starter polygel kit as my first attempt at doing this method of nails. It does I include everything needed to do a first set. However if you're just learning and prone to using too much gel at one time like me, the tubes of polygel are quite small and may not last for another full set. Also, watching a polygrl YouTube tutorial from The Beauty Vault was very helpful while using this starter set. Overall I would reccomend this set to anyone starting on polygel but if you do want to do more than one set (or a future fill) you will need to purchase more tubes of polygel. ... show more

I am not a nail tech just tired of paying a ridiculous amount for a simple overlay. I ordered this kit and only used it for an overlay. I didn’t use the dual forms cause I couldn’t figure out how to and I didn’t want my nails longer. I used the 015 but did add a chrome powder to them. It did take a while cause I’m very picky on how the shape is. I have to have an apex of some kind. This stuff wasn’t too runny or too sticky. I did notice if I didn’t tap the brush on a paper towel before “patting” it did get a little runny. If I just hold my hand upside down it seemed to self level. First - all the products that came in the kit are great. The light is decent, I can fit 4 fingers under at once. The brush is small but does the job. The gels are nice but more opaque than the pictures show. The instructions are very clear, and tell you step by step what to do. It’s definitely time consuming for a first timer, and I definitely have room to practice. But my first set turned out decent. I ordered an electric nail file on the side that was super helpful. Base coat - cure for 30-60 seconds. I did 45 and found it to be perfect. I did a pea size amount of polygel on the form, it worked for each finger except my thumb (needed just a smidge more). I did the full 90 second cure for the gel, on both sides. (Flip your hand to cure the bottom too, ensures it’s fully cured). Use the slip liquid to wipe the stickiness, and then again after filing (best way to clean the dust off before top coat) Cure top coat for 30 seconds. This was a perfect time for it. Definitely going to search for more colors, but overall; this is a fantastic starter kit! ... show more

This was my first time doing my own poly gel nails so I’m not sure if it was beginner error or not. I watched countless hours of YouTube and TicTok videos on how to do poly gel and got brave enough to try it myself, this kit came highly recommended and was an affordable option for a first timer, I didn’t want to waste a ton of money if it didn’t work out. The instructions were clear, and the process was pretty simple. After a few practice nails my very patient and brave test subject (aka my bff) I mustered up the courage to do my own nails. I attempted an ombré look and with it being my first time I think I did ok, definitely not perfection but with a coat of glitter and a sheer light pink polish after they were decent enough to wear out in public. Again, probably beginner error but most of the nails broke off at the tips the next day. My biggest concern though was the fact that the skin around my nails was blistered and bleeding within 12 hours. I took extra care to ensure that I didn’t leave any poly gel on my skin before curing as I’ve heard that can cause a reaction, so I’m not sure what went wrong, but over a month later my nails and skin around my nails are finally almost healed. *the white stuff around my nail bed in the pic is dust from filing down the length of the nails.
