This review is for the MINISFORUM UM890 Pro. I was looking for an all around fast PC with good graphics for gaming. I run multiple virtual machines at the same time with Windows and Linux operating systems. My gaming is mostly MMORPGs. I am very impressed with how fast and quiet this Mini PC is even with 100% CPU and 100% Graphics processing. Running continuously at 100% CPU and 100% GPU the temperatures were 71c for the SOC (entire chip) and 81c for the CPU. The system had no problems and the fans were still barely noticeable. The air coming out was warm, but not hot. The 4nm gate technology makes a big difference. It has no problem running virtual machines (make sure to turn off Windows 11 Core Isolation!). I use VirtualBox to run everything from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 11. Mint Linux 22 with the 6.1 kernel has support for the graphics in this PC. Earlier versions did not detect the graphics device. If you plan to use Linux, make sure you have a recent distro with at least the 6.1 kernel. It comes with Windows 11 Pro. It also starts encrypting your disk as soon as you install Windows. If you don't want your disk encrypted, turn off BItLocker encryption as soon as possible, so you don't have to wait for the disk to be decrypted. My biggest problem with Windows 11 was the Core Isolation security feature. It caused virtual machines to malfunction without any error messages from Windows about blocking access by software. It wasn't obvious why the virtual machines were slow, erratic and crashing. The network ports, wireless and Bluetooth work great and are fast. The audio on the front is clean and quiet to make the most of your headphones or sound system. This Mini PC is well worth the price. It packs a lot of power in a small space and still manages to be quiet and cool. I added a larger nVME module and the PC was easy to upgrade. I had a little trouble reconnecting the fan cable to the main board. It would be better if that cable was longer, so that the top can be flipped up completely without disconnecting the fan. The PC also comes with a separate OCulink card that has to be installed by you if you want it. The OCulink card goes in one of the M.2 slots. So, you might want to install the OCulink card and upgrade storage or RAM at the same time. Be prepared for reconnecting a tiny fan connector. ... show more

    • Outstanding little but powerful computer
Minisforum Neptune HX99G, 32-GB DDR5 4800 and 1-TB SSD. Minisforum receives high marks from me for the design, engineering, and production of this small form factor Ryzen system with discrete graphics. Ordered on June 16, 2023, received from Amazon on June 17, and after installation i put it through the paces and it is fast, silent, cool, and stunning. I linked up the Ethernet, keyboard, and mouse. I used the USB4 on the I/O to connect the monitor. I used an Insignia USB-C to display port cable purchased at Best Buy because i did not wish to use the HDMI. The monitor purchased for the HX99G was an LG 32-inch 2560 x 1440 panel with 165-hz refresh rate (32GN63T-B). I powered everything and turned on the computer. Everything worked flawlessly with Windows 11-Pro. Seamless without any glitches. After hours, and hours the unit was cold to the touch. The fan kept the unit cool but i never heard the fan at all. Windows shows the 165-hz refresh rate. There are plenty of You Tube videos on this model. You cannot beat the form factor, and the powerful and responsive zip through everything gives me high hopes as we head down the road. it was simple to put the feet on the unit and get everything in motion. UPDATE 08/06/2024 If I could take away the one star, I would. I've been using the computer regularly for 3 months, and now the USB-C port on the front has died. I had a small hub connected to it that gave me 3 USB-A ports, and SD card slot, a micro-SD slot (which I use a lot), and an HDMI port (how I overcome the faulty DP port (see below). The hub has a short cable so I must plug it into the front to reach it. This computer is quickly becoming unusable. I highly recommend avoiding this brand and go with something like Beelink that has much better support (and better hardware). ORIGINAL REVIEW I purchased this computer a few months ago to replace a small gaming computer I had for over 6 years that was having some trouble. I love the small form factor, and this model received many glowing reviews on YouTube and several other places. While I am not a heavy gamer, having the Oculink port on this mini PC is a nice assurance that if I do want to add a graphic card to it, I have that option. I immediately downgraded the OS to Windows 10 and had no trouble doing this as the drivers were available on Minisforum's website, then dual-booted it with Manjaro Linux as I slowly make the transition away from Windows. Still no trouble. The computer is responsive, quiet, and cool with the fans enclosed. Even if I push it and the fans spin up, they are not too loud. I also love that it's small enough to place directly on my desk so that I can easily access both the front and back of it. The LED feature is a nice touch, but I don't have the space on my desk to use it. Overall, it's a great computer that lets me play games, do some graphic work, and all of my day-to-day tasks without hesitation. However, I now have to caution any buyers of this product that you are on your own if you have any issues with this. I initially had it set up using a single display. Once I made space for it on my primary desk and wanted to connect it to my second monitor, the trouble started. Basically, the Display Port (DP) does not work. At all. This was 5 months after purchasing, so outside of the return window. I tried everything I could think to do, including updating drivers directly from AMD, trying 3 different cables (my monitors only have HDMI, so this did involve a converter), using the DP port without the HDMI, and double-checking all internal connections. I contacted Minisforum via their support email on their website. I received a very quick response, but it basically said, in very broken English, "many customers have this issue, so don't use the Display Port". Fortunately, I had a USB-C docking station with an HDMI port on it, so I plugged this in and have been able to use two displays as planned. I occasionally have an issue when the computer wakes from sleep where this docking station does not reconnect, so I have to disconnect and reconnect the cable, but it works as intended after that. I will update this review if I get any further with my contact with Minisforum, but as of now, I can only recommend this computer if you are comfortable with the lack of support. ... show more
