    • Not bad for miniatures

I use these as my bread and butter brushes for dry brushing or applying base coats. The brushes maintain their integrity (no broken or stray bristles) and are good value. However for detailed work (edge highlighting, faces, etc.) I find that they don't hold enough paint. It's super annoying trying to paint a super thinline and having to break off to refill the brush. I found Winsor and Newton held paint better and it made detail work easier. However they're also much more expensive with one brush about the same price as this entire set. Edit: I forgot to add that this set being synthetic are subject to the dreaded hooked tip which may or may not be fixed by dipping in really hot water. I'm not downgrading them because of it though because all synthetics get the hooked tip. My suggestion to other miniature painters for "ideal" brushes: * Windsor & Newton Series 7: I prefer the regular long bristles versus their miniature line which has a shorter more triangular bristle shape. One of the few pros that do like the miniature W&N is "The Infernal Brush" who was a 'Eavy Metal painter for 9 years and won two Golden Demons. So it's clearly personal preference. * DaVinci Series 35: A slightly cheaper option than the W&N since these are red sable and not the Kolinksy sables. These also hold a tip just as well as the W&N. I really want to try the Raphael 8404s but they're hard to come by in size 1, my workhorse size. ... show more

I'm new to painting so I don't know all of the specifics people are looking for, I just know these are WAY better than the half priced brush pack at Walmart. Without changing anything else, these brushes made the quality of my miniatures so much better.
