  • Prepare to help
Style: Ultimate Stunt 203 piece set
Pros: Great toy that will see many years of play. Well designed for how the pieces join and ascetically pleasing with the variety of colors. Many options and accessories to make the build fun and exciting. The stunt features do work. Age range says 6 and up. This is a stretch, especially to build the maze that is pictured on the box. So be prepared to help the younger child a lot. Cons: Instructions for the build were difficult even for an adult to follow. It took 3 of us (2 adults and a 10yr old) over an hour because it was our first experience with this product. And we had our moments of frustration. Only instructions for the Ultimate Stunt Tower are included with the package, which had 34 steps. It would be nice if there were instructions for smaller builds or towers included in the box. This would help the beginner or younger builder. We have since found that there are many many plans available online from Q-Ba-Maze More Pros: this is a learning toy that challenges spatial awareness which is needed to follow the instructions. It also teaches about physics and gravity and motion as well as cause and affect. ... show more

  • A little too complex to be fun
Style: Mega Stunt 144 piece set
We have a great love for marble tracks for some reason, and we have purchased a few of them over the years. We bought this one for our 5 year old and it looked super fun. And it was fun, in fairness. But it was also quite complex to set up according to the instructions. Once we got it completed, the track was enjoyable to go through. The pieces are durable and well made, and they connect together tightly and securely. However, because of the complexity of this build, one we started to make our own tracks that weren’t the included design, it just wasn’t that fun anymore. Somehow the smaller pieces, while enabling you to create more complex designs, were just too much work to be fun. We have enjoyed the sets with larger pieces more than this one. There also are not a ton of “fun” action pieces where you can see the marble in motion, which takes away from the joy somehow. So overall, a good set, but we have enjoyed other sets that have larger, less complex, pieces and builds much more. We used this a few times and then eventually donated it to a local charity. ... show more

  • These toys are beautifully executed on several different levels
Style: Rails 104 piece set
I purchased the Rails kit as an addition to the large Stunt kit: Rails adds stronger horizontal ball movement. The balls don't have to chug through multiple cubes to reach the other side. They serve that purpose very well. It is not really possible to evaluate the Rails kit without commenting on the entire Q-BA-Maze program. These toys are beautifully executed on several different levels. What first strikes you are the colors: they are magnificent, and the finished kit actually makes an attractive and striking centerpiece provided you have a tolerant spouse. The design of the cubes is pure genius. The molded ribs on the interior of the 2-way and 4-way cubes catches the ball and as long as the ball keeps rocking back and forth, it doesn't exit the cube leaving the spectator is a state of suspense. When the ball slows down, it becomes unstable on the ribs and exits one way or another. Wonderful! The plastic cubes are very well molded; I have not found a single one that was less than perfectly formed. There has been some criticism of how the cubes fit together. I have found that they fit together very well, but you have to be careful that they are pressed all the way home. If they are, the resulting structure will be stable and can be moved to another table, if you like. But you have to realize that the randomness of the balls' path will be determined not only by the design of the structure, but any bias that may have crept into the construction. For example, if the table top is not level, the balls will tend to follow the same predictable path. The same thing happens if the cubes are not fully engaged with each other. That's the part that will teach you, or your kiddies, how to be exact (if you, or they, want to be). Overall, I have found that this is an excellent toy with great creative, visual and fascination value. I can hardly wait to add a Lego (R) automatic ball loader to it. ... show more

  • The box also contained a handy insert that explained the different types of blocks in the box and how they could be assembled to
Style: Rails 104 piece set
Q-BA-MAZE Rails is a collection of plastic standard Q-BA-MAZE blocks and also includes plastic rails that can be used to create more complex Q-BA-MAZE structures. Children and adults alike can use the parts in this box to build marble maze structures. We already owned approximately 40 basic Q-BA-MAZE blocks prior to purchasing this kit as a Christmas gift for our children. Pro: The kit contains enough blocks to build a structure along with the rails and no additional kits would be necessary to get started building Q-BA-Mazes. The box also contained a handy insert that explained the different types of blocks in the box and how they could be assembled to create a cool marble maze. My kids didn't seem to need the insert though. They tend to appreciate the 'trial and error method' and quickly set to work building a structure with the new rails which added a new dimension of fun to building marble mazes. Con: Marble maze structures are fun but my children got frustrated when the structures would not remain stable and fell over. It can be tricky to build a structure that not only runs the marble, but is also very stable. The older children (10 and 8) had more patience for the process, but got quite frustrated when they finally had a structure built and the younger children tried to run a marble through it and it fell over (more than once!). Overall, a fun product. We have owned Q-BA-MAZE products for over a year now. Q-BA-MAZE gets pulled out every 6-8 weeks, gets played with nearly every day for about a week, and then heads back to the toy closet. ... show more
