  • Quality Tungsten from a quality supplier.
Material Type: Blue - 2% Lanthanated Size: 3/32"
Not much to say except tungsten is a consumable for TIG welding but the overall quality of the Tung is always important when it comes to TIG welding and Midwest provides high grade, consistent tungsten sticks in various compounds plus their shipping is quick. While not the least expensive out there, their quality is top notch and when it comes to welding exotic metals, high quality Tung is paramount and Midwest delivers. The tung is packaged in convenient plastic dispensers as well, a nice touch that can be sequestered in your welding cabinet and not get damaged. ... show more

  • Good product, but package was broken.
Material Type: White - 0.8% Zirconiated Size: 3/32"
Works fine, and wasn't damaged except for the case. It was wrapped in bubble wrap but the case was still smashed, luckily the tungsten wasn't damaged, so I'm happy. Maybe package in a box next time not an envelope.

  • Easy to work with and great price. My classmates and I like it.
Material Type: Gold - 1.5% Lanthanated Size: 1/16"
I'm a welding student and my school doesn't provide us with tungsten, so most of us got this brand from Amazon. The school let us use some random short piece of crap for our first class, but we had to have our own ASAP. (Student Prime shipping got it to me in time for my next class!) No complaints about the Midwest tungsten from myself or any of my classmates. Since I'm doing my first TIG class I don't have anything to compare these to, but I've asked some of the more experienced students and they really like this brand compared to others they have tried. I bought these from recommendations from my teacher and other classmates, and it had really good reviews here too. Perfect mid-range price point since I'm still dipping a lot! As I'm improving my skills I notice that the arc starts easily, and can take the abuse I'm giving them. They are WAY better than the random brand that the school lent us the first day of class! I'll continue to purchase from Midwest, and my classmates are too. Just like other reviewers have said; the paint on the top is too thick to stick into the torch without inserting it from the back. I just rubbed the excess off on my bench and that fixed the issue. Only took enough paint off to feed it in without snagging and can still see what color it is. ... show more

  • Powerful Electrodes, WIDE AMPERAGE, Arcs EXTREMELY HOT 🔥; works even without gas
Material Type: Purple - Rare Earth Blend Size: 3/32"
Wow! Blown away by this product. First time ever using tungsten electrodes. I used it to aid in melting alumina with chromia to make rubies, and they work great for it! It's easy to sustain an arc of extreme temperature without the electrode melting away. I used it without gas, and it works fabulously. Just make sure that you appropriately sharpen the tip, I preferred the truncated tip for max surface area for high amperage. It truly lasts a long time, but, because I use without gas, the tip kind of needs to be shaped back to preference frequently. Not a problem. I was able to sharpen with an alumina coated sandpaper, it worked well. Just drag the tip parallel to the grain, and only in one direction (i.e. only pulling against the sandpaper). Just beware that dipping the tip into your melt will basically eat it up, and your electrode will obviously get shorter. I always use this on the negative lead on my DC arc welder, because it lasts longer. On the positive lead I connect a long carbon gouging rod, and tadah, a super hot arc furnace is mine, wherever I please! 😊 👍🏽 🙂 Great job MTS, I will eagerly try out your other tungsten flavors! ... show more
