I picked up this bestarc plasma cutter for small projects in the shop. For my first project I decided to up-cycle our old 20lb Propane tanks in Halloween pumpkin art. This is a nice beefy feeling unit compared to what I've seen with other plasma cutters. The thing that really sets it apart is the easy connection to CNC machines with the pre-wired plugs. It's nice to know that I can use stand alone, or with a full machine to get perfect cuts. The torch and cable all feel very heavy duty, and I appreciate that it has one connection for the cable instead of splitting off into separate ports. It's just one chunky multi pin connection and it's ready to go. I also like that the tip guard is a solid piece rather than the typical wire that runs around it. Everything about this cutter feels very well made. It starts cutting as soon as I pull the trigger, and it leaves nice clean lines. I'm not sure what more you could ask for in a plasma cutter. This is a pretty nice machine. The build quality is very impressive. it came professionally packaged and had probably the best manual that I have ever seen supplied with a piece of Chinese welding equipment.( I have imported and evaluated Chinese equipment since 2012). The cutting performance was without fault; the built in standoff on the torch nose piece really contributed to stability while cutting. the torch itself is very nice, solid, and ergonomic. The torch connections to the machine are a new unitized style, in the fashion of Euro style mig torch connections that are widely used. While very nice, from the point of view of convenience and streamlining, for me, it is actually a disadvantage as I have a assortment of plasma torches with stocks of consumables, for both handholding and machine mounting, that I will not be able to use with this machine. There are pigtails with plugs that correspond to two sockets on the rear of the machine designed to facilitate hook up to automated plasma tables. Pinout diagrams in the manual show the function of the various connections, and torch height compensation is available if supported with your table. I do not know how readily available the consumable parts are, what they cost, or how widely adopted this torch has become, so I can not say if any of these factors will become a hindrance to using this machine down the line. While it would be possible to ultimately rework things to restore the old style connection configuration that most Chinese plasma machines have used, it would be a bit of a chore to say the least. It would be nice if the manfacturer offerd the option of choosing front panel styles, since the earlier version of this machine used the old mounting/ connection setup. I doubt that the features this machine offers could be had for twice or thrice the price from a domestic manufacturer, so it really is a bargain; currently being offered with a $100 discount. I do not think you can go wrong with this machine unless you need a straight machine torch, or find consumable availability problematic, or consumable cost too high, otherwise, this is a great plasma machine for a great price. ... show more
