  • Works with my old stuff but it wasn’t clear that the black one did not have wireless
Color: Black
Had one disappointment. Discovered that the black one doesn’t have wireless. I had an old 5 pin BTle transmitter that worked. My old Roland expression pedal worked. Rechargeable AA batteries worked. I also had rechargeable 12 volt batteries and the adapter plugged in. Also it has usb B data and power. This addressed all my needs as compared to my old BlueBoard and KMI 12 step. Mostly metal and sturdy. One review claimed he broke two of the buttons but didn’t describe how he did it. ... show more

  • I Love It
Color: Black
I bought this for the Geek Mode. It is amazing. I use it to control all kinds of things. I built Ableton Live templates where I basically use a page on the Midi Captain per instrument I use to perform or produce. Guitar, bass, synths, drum machines, vocals, etc. I assign foot switches to arm tracks for record, record clips, reverse clips, speed or slow time, overdub, etc. I even have a page that triggers bass notes from an Ableton synth, sorta like a Moog Taurus. I also send commands to switch presets on guitar pedals. This controller paired with my Arturia KeyLab Essential mk3 gives me all the control I'd ever need, saving me so many mouse clicks and making live performance with Ableton Live more fun. I bought the foot switch topper button things from PaintAudio as well, and they do make it easier to use quickly while performing. I don't use any of the non Geek Mode amp modeler modes, but I imagine it is great for that as well. ... show more

  • Didn't last long !
Color: Black
I got this on May 24th 2024. (actually bought two of them, one as a backup) My first impression was very good. Looked and felt sturdy and well made. (...looks can be deceiving though) I didn't really have time to start figuring it out until about a month ago, when I got into programing the "supermode" (which is fantastic btw) during which all of the button activations were done by my fingers. Once that was done I actually started using it as a "footswitch" for about 10 times over the last couple of weeks until yesterday when the "1" switch after releasing it disintegrated and the cap and shaft flew up in the air. Unfortunately it will not stay together anymore so that the whole thing is unusable. Largely due to the fact that I don't trust the remaining switches anymore. For something to last only for two weeks and being used only about 10 times during that time is totally unacceptable, especially if it comes with a Pricetag of close to $200.-US. The features are very nice and it would be a great tool if it would last. Save your money and wait for something similar and better manufactured to come along. ... show more

  • Incredibly flexible and great value
Color: Blue
I ordered this device because it is far more compact than my old Behringer MIDI Controller, and seemed to be the best value at this price point. I needed something that could be programmed in various configurations for my Headrush LooperBoard and possibly also for my Headrush MX-5. So I needed more programming flexibility than other controllers in this price range often have. When I first received the MIDI captain, the text-file based programming seemed a bit daunting. But I quickly learned the setup system (it turns out that it wasn't nearly as complicated as it at first seemed) and was able to get it up and running right away. I had a bit of a disappointment when I learned that "Bank up and down" buttons only changed PC codes, not CC codes. That meant that I was limited to 8 CC codes (or 10 if I reprogrammed the Up/Down buttons). The Looperboard uses only CC codes, so I was hoping to have multiple pages of CC codes to switch between. HOWEVER! I emailed their tech support and asked if there was a way to configure it to meet my needs. I got a very prompt response from Wilson, the owner of PaintAudio, and he agreed to make a new version of the firmware to meet my needs. I just installed that new version today, and it is GREAT! It still does everything the old version did, but now has a "geek mode" that lets you configure up to 6 simultaneous PC, CC, and note codes for each button press AND release, and allows for 16 pages/banks of these! Best of all, these changes can be made directly on the device, so there's no need to plug it into a computer to adjust settings anymore. I am incredibly impressed with this customer service and with the new possibilities opened up by this new firmware. ... show more

  • I love it, but I’ve broke two buttons. Need to be delicate.
Color: Black
First the good: This thing is easy to program if you read the directions. Wilson did a great job documenting how to customize. We use three of these for our Fractals and they do a great job. The bad: I’m not sure I would call this Tour Grade. I bought this in November and have broke two buttons. They are not repairable either. So I’ve had to take two buttons off of my other guitar players board because he only uses 4 out of 8 buttons. I cannot find this type of button on the internet ANYWHERE. Wilson leaves his contact info but is pretty much unresponsive. He’s answered once about a programming question, but I fear we’re going to have to go in a different direction if we can’t find buttons to replace as they break. One broke in the middle of my show yesterday and I instantly had no ability to get back to my clean preset. I’d live with this forever if I knew where to get the buttons. ... show more
