  • This is basically a fully functional PC that happens to have a powerful gaming setup.
Update September 2018 I've not had a single issue with my Xbox. It's still running strong and with a 6 TB external hard drive, there is no issue storing everything I need and easily taking it with me. Normally when I do these updates, I can name something or another that has worn out or isn't as good, but I can honestly say with the new updates, it's faster and more responsive; I forget that I a) bought it refurbished and b) bought it almost 4 years ago. I'm looking at buy an Xbox One X soon so I can give this to my nephew. He has a PS2, PS3, and PS4 but is always at my house on my Xbox when I'm not. I can't say that Xbox is better than PlayStation because my last experience was the tragedy called Gran Turismo 5 where they basically took an amazing racing simulation franchise (Gran Turismo 4 which was not only a great game but an amazing 3 part soundtrack) and tried to follow it up with something modeled after Crazy Taxi or something similar (I finished Gran Turismo 5 in 2 days thinking I had purchased a demo, returned to the store to find out the low price was a clearance price because the game was awful). Oh, and refurbished or new, you'll continue to get free prioritized support if you subscribe to Office 365. I found that out when I was having an issue that turned out to be a day that Xbox Live was experiencing issues. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I actually work customer service for this device. Keep in mind: refurbished doesn't always actually mean used. In my case, the only thing that was used was the controller and the power cord. I verified the serial number and the console, Kinect, and headset were all brand new and I have the full 1 year warranty on that. With a Kinect adapter, you can use the Kinect with a Windows 10 pc. The Xbox app is amazing. Pause a game in one room and play in another just by taking the controller. Streaming the Xbox to your computer does NOT use your Internet connection, which is great if you have a limited plan. The streaming of your Xbox to your PC uses your local area network, NOT the internet. However, you will need Internet for the interface of the Xbox app to load. Also, the Smart glass app is so cool. You can easily control your console or have a full keyboard to type using your phone. I could go on and on, but it's like this; this console is a PC, not just a gaming console. If you want something that can do far more than just play a game, you will love your Xbox one. Don't be afraid of the 500 gb storage, either. You can easily use an external USB 3.0 hard drive to expand your space (excellent for your movies and music as well). ... show more

  • Performs and looks just like new! Some games would have been nice.
*Update Below* [Original] What can be said that hasn't been said already? All I can tell you is that I was a huge Xbox fan through to the 360. I had it all (way too much if you ask my wife). But then, that dreaded red ring of death plagued me for months. I repaired it multiple times, only to have it fail weeks later. I made a final repair, sold it all off and went strictly master...er, PC gamer. This went on for 4 years. I built myself a respectable library on Steam, and a decent reputation as well. For the most part, I saw no need to go back until my children started to get older. They played Just Dance at a family member's home using the kinect and that was it, game over, hasta la vista. For months I researched the pros and cons of the available consoles on the market. Everything pointed back to the Xbox. I gave in and here we are. Two weeks later, Newegg Flash throws up an Xbox refurb with Kinect for $20 less AND it included games. Grrrr. I hope this is not a bad omen. So far, my kids have fully taken advantage of the kinect and it has been an absolute joy playing along side them. I have also been quite pleased with the direction microsoft has taken with Gold. Offering new games each month, as well as allowing apps to function outside of a subscription, adding guest users, and the Gold Home feature... awesome to say the least. Buying refurb had me a bit worried since the coverage was only 90 days. I did find, however, a 3 year coverage by Canopy which has given me peace of mind. All the smaller transactions here and there to get me up and running have put me in the ballpark of a new system, but still with the Kinect it's been a money saver. Everything has worked perfectly to this point. I've been able to connect a 2TB external drive to manage games and apps, and a 64GB flash drive on the left side which I have all of my P90x videos stored. I probably use my the Xbox to exercise more than anything. I am very pleasantly surprised at how well it's fit into our lifestyle. As a side note, an external drive is almost necessary as loading times are abysmal on the internal drive. [Update - 2/2/17] - It's still going strong, in fact, I purchased the newly released Xbox One S to take full advantage of the 4K features offered by the new console. Additionally, Mygrowsoft sent me a free adapter to connect my original Kinect to the One S. Very very happy with how this has all worked out. Still have just over 2 years left on my warranty with no indication of failing whatsoever. Getting this refurb unit was a great decision considering the savings. I ended up skinning it to protect the finish, it looks so hot now. Should I end up selling it, they will be in for a treat as it was babied for sure. ... show more

  • Worst console of my life
I have never so quickly hated a console. The interface is a hot mess of unrelated things, somehow still clinging to the concept of those old Windows tiles that nobody wanted, making navigation a nightmare. The Kinect doesn't do anything worthwhile. Half the time it doesn't even respond to my voice. And every single app needs to be tied in to your Microsoft account, or else it doesn't work. So if you have a Skype, or Amazon account that uses a different email from your Microsoft account, it will not work. You need to just make a new account with the same email as your microsoft one. And finding tech support to try to unlink your email is a joke. Seriously, why can't I just use my normal accounts that I have already been using for years? Why does everything need to get forced into the Microsoft account? I'm absolutely sick of it, after only a week of having this console. I didn't buy it to only be able to use the Netflix app. I guess I'm going to just sell this one for cheap and hope to god that the PS4 is at least marginally better. ... show more

  • Kinect
Kinect did not work, not sure if it's an issue with the sensor or the console. Control tends to drift on the toggle. Every thing else seems to work.
