This spice grater originated in the wood shop, and because it is ultra-sharp and fast it became a kitchen gadget. Grating whole spices into perfectly ground spice particles was hard work and cooks needed a utensil to do the job. The spice grater answered that call. This little baby is SHARP! However, I wish I would have purchased the flat one. I bought it for nutmeg but then needed it for lemon zest. For that a flat one works better. I went ahead and bought a Martha Stewart one at our local Macy's store. It doesn't make lemon zest as well as the round blade. In looking at them closely I found that the little "blades" on this one (the one I ordered from Amazon) are smaller than the "blades" on the flat Martha Stewart one. They're both made by the same company and it's a pleasure to note that the blades are made in the USA. The difference between them is the pattern the little "blades" are punched in. The round one seems like the blades are stamped just a wee bit deeper than the flat one. That slight little change would account for the difference in how they performed on a lemon. They're both well made and I'm not complaining about them, just pointing out the differences. ... show more
