    • Flawed Design - Will not Grate Cilantro

There is a flaw in this design that makes it almost unusable. I tried using it to grate fresh cilantro and because how this product is designed, it all got mushed/caught by the press hammer and it would not let the Leaf Pin get in place which moves the grating knives and provides the cutting mechanism. In order for it to work you have to very carefully place single cilantro leaves on a pattern that does not interfere with the pestle pin or else you just end up squashing the herbs inside. I had such high hopes that this item would actually work and beautifully chop fresh herbs, but it doesn't. For delicate herbs like fresh basil, oregano, mint, etc, it bruises the leaves and doesn't even closely resemble an even chop. It does chop herbs to a passable state if you are putting them into a sauce or a soup. If you're looking for a sprinkle of fresh basil over a Caprese salad or a finely chopped herb blend for bruschetta, keep looking. In fact, don't even bother to look. Just buy a really good knife and a nice cutting board. The best thing about a knife and cutting board, they also perfectly cut more than just fresh herbs! ... show more

I bought 2, one for me and one for a friend. Thank goodness I tried mine out before I gifted it. I thought it would work similarly to a salt or pepper grinder. I bought this specifically because the body is clear and I like to see what's in the grinder or how much is left. I grow my own herbs and was excited to use my homegrown rosemary and thyme or even my dehydrated garlic. Ok, so I add my rosemary, thyme, garlic and 1/4 of it just falls through the bottom. Then the entire thing just comes apart as I am turning it so now I have a big mess and wasted herbs. I actually saw on the mfg website that this is being discontinued. We saw some really nice ones in France this summer but didn't buy them for some reason. Returning the one I was going to gift and discarding the one I bought for myself.
