  • Disappointing Experience: Micro Swiss NG™ Direct Drive Extruder Review for Creality Ender 5 Series
As an avid user of 3D printers, I recently decided to invest in the Micro Swiss NG™ Direct Drive Extruder for my Creality Ender 5 Pro in hopes of improving print quality and versatility. However, my experience with this product has been nothing short of frustrating, primarily due to the significant difficulty encountered when attempting to load filament. One of the most basic functions of any extruder is to facilitate the smooth and hassle-free loading of filament. Unfortunately, the design of the Micro Swiss NG™ Direct Drive Extruder seems to overlook this fundamental aspect. Loading filament into this extruder is an arduous task that often ends in wasted time and filament. The design lacks user-friendly features, making it challenging to properly guide the filament into the extruder mechanism. Unlike other direct drive extruders I've used in the past, which offer clear and accessible pathways for filament insertion, the Micro Swiss NG™ model seems to have a convoluted design that obstructs the filament's path. Furthermore, the instructions provided with the extruder are insufficient and fail to adequately address the intricacies of filament loading. As a result, users are left to figure out the process through trial and error, leading to frustration and wasted materials. Even after multiple attempts, I found myself struggling to feed filament into the extruder without encountering jams or misalignments. This not only wastes time but also undermines the reliability and efficiency of the printing process. While I had hoped that the Micro Swiss NG™ Direct Drive Extruder would enhance the performance of my Creality Ender 5 Pro, it has instead introduced unnecessary complications and headaches. The difficulty in loading filament outweighs any potential benefits this extruder may offer, making it a regrettable investment in my experience. In conclusion, I cannot recommend the Micro Swiss NG™ Direct Drive Extruder for Creality Ender 5 series printers due to its significant shortcomings, particularly its frustratingly difficult filament loading process. Unless substantial improvements are made to address these issues, users are better off exploring alternative extruder options for their 3D printing needs. ... show more

  • It just works
This is one of the best things I've done for my Ender 5. The thing just works every time - all the time. Mine was missing parts, and a quick email and the parts were on the way (cable and set screw). EXCELLENT response from company and a fantastic upgrade. Buy it - you will thank yourself. As an engineer - the only thing I would change is have a taper into the hot end - like a cone as it is sometimes tough to load the filament. Micro-Swiss are you listening??? ADD A CONE OR TAPER INTO THE HOT END!!!! ... show more

  • Bowden begone! All hail the direct drive!
Stringing getting you down? Hate holding open the extrusion tensioning wheel while you feed a meter of filament to the hot end? NO MORE! I mean, you still need to feed a bunch into the back bowden tube, but its WAY easier! And the dual gear extruder grabs your line like a DREAM! The installation of this hot end and direct drive kit was a cakewalk with the online instructions. It goes on with ease, and requires only minor changes to your slicer. Once all is said and done, your off to the races! Sure, ringing is a little more of an issue for you now, but its minor. This kit is surprisingly light and compact. If you have an ender 5 or 5 plus, get this kit! ... show more

  • Could be amazing….but it’s not.
I’ve had this hot end for about 3 months on an Ender 5 Plus, and this thing is full of headaches. I print PC @ 260 in an enclosure. The touch sensor bracket failed immediately, I’m talking within 10 minutes. Nice, I get to zip tie my sensor up and hope it holds still enough to recalibrate and print a new bracket out of PC. After I did that, it worked fine. Cool. Then I started working on longer prints. That’s when the fan shroud started melting. Can’t print PC anymore. The printed stop riser also comes loose after a couple dozen bumps, and when you tighten it, the riser lifts off of the x axis arm. Filament changes are also a nightmare. Out of dozens of changes, only 2 or 3 loaded without having to remove the fan shroud and tensioner, guide the filament in, and rebuild. If you keep your temps sub 225, you’ll probably be good. But it’s not suitable for hotter temps, period. MS really dropped the ball, why sell a fully cnc machined unit if you’re going to include garbage hardware? I’m switching to BIQU, peace Micro Swiss. :-* ... show more

  • good design marred by single point of failure.
I don't know which newbie engineer made this design, but having a z-axis home/calibration sensor mounted on a 3D PRINTED BRACKET that would snap when it hits any bump on the printer is just straight up trash design. Why bother cutting out a big chunk of metal to make an extruder when it can fail by having the stupid little plastic mount break off and create a mess? If you're trying to cut cost by making us reprint that mount, please don't, the amount of problem that stupid bracket would create is definitely more than enough to just stay with cheak stock nozzle on a metal bracketed sensor. ... show more
