  • Great For Gardening and Logging!
Size: One Size Color: Black (1 Pair)
I previously bought a pair of Schwer ANSI A6 arm sleeves from Amazon and decided to try these toolant MetalQ ones as well. I've primarily used them for gardening to prevent itchiness and irritation when bush and plant pruning. In addition, I have also used them underneath a hoody and without a hoody when cutting and hauling firewood. Overall I prefer the toolant brand, primarily because they seem to be a little thicker material in the hand area than the Schwer. I have included a picture of both side-by-side and you may be able to see what I am talking about. They work great for preventing scratching on your arms when pruning plants and bushes, as well as when picking up logs (I cut them into roughly 3' long sections for burning in an outdoor wood furnace.) Previously, anytime I had to cut, load, and unload logs I would inevitably get scratches on my arms from doing so. These have worked well to prevent that. When it comes to gardening, I would also get some itchiness/scratchiness when having to really get in the bushes to prune them back and these have also worked to prevent that as well. The only difference I see (besides a $1 difference in price) is that the Schwer brand has an ANSI A6 rating, whereas the toolant brand does not specify an ANSI rating. I'm not working with metal or particularly sharp objects, so for my purposes, it doesn't practically matter to me. However, an ANSI A6 rating is pretty good -- the ANSI cut resistance goes from A1 to A9, with A1 being "Low Cut Hazards" and A9 being "Extreme Cut Hazards." A6 is classified for "High Cut Hazards" for example working with sharp objects all day such as in a stamping plant. Presumably, you could wear A6 gloves and A6 sleeves for extra protection. If you are working around sharp metal objects, the ANSI rating may be something to consider. It wouldn't be a bad idea for toolant to look into receiving an ANSI rating, in my opinion. In summary, these work great for gardening and logging, when paired with glove protection of some kind for your hands. For gardening, I use nitrile gloves on top of the sleeves and for logging I pair them with my regular work gloves. Recommended! ... show more

  • So impressive for what we need them for
Size: One Size Color: Green (1 Pair)
My wife jumped on these because we do a lot of gardening around thorny bushes and poky branches, and use lots of shears, scissors, small saws, and other implements of gardening, and the cuts and scratches can really itch by the end of the day, even if they're not serious enough to warrant other attention. They are very comfortable, while just a little snug around the seam of the palm (we have bigger hands than most, so that's a subjective thing). Nice and stretchy, and well-made. My wife's first comment after trying them out was "These are leGIT!" These have a rating of ANSI 105 A4. This standard measures resistance for abrasion, cutting, and puncturing, and has nine cut levels from A1 (the lowest) to A9 (the highest). In the cut test they use a machine to pull a blade 20mm across a surface with different gram loads and see what weight is needed to cut through the material. They do similar tests for abrasion and puncture resistance. For cutting, an A4 rating means the blade needed 1,500g of pressure to cut through the material being tested. And there are tables you can look up online to see what that rating is recommended for. My wife can't even snag these sleeves with her nails, which snag my socks all the time. She tried open scissors and a neck knife to leave marks, which they did, but after stretching the material the marks were gone. Mind you, we were not trying to cut the material, as these are cut-resistant, not cut-proof, but we did drag the blades across them without any damage to the material. My wife is especially really excited about these. If you are going to need multiple of these it's nice that you can get them discounted in pairs. Unfortunately for us there aren't discounts for four pairs at a time =) If these will serve you for your purposes - in our case it's almost entirely gardening - then they're definitely worth it. ... show more
