My husband has the worst luck with tools and working on anything. It never fails that he gets hurt at some point, no matter what we're working on. He's been burned, cut, scraped, scratched.... you name it, and it's primarily on his arms or hands. So, I saw these sleeves and thought they would at least be worth a try. He's used them with everything from working on the car to pruning the rose bushes, and they work. His arms have remained injury free, so to him these are worth their weight in gold. They fit well, and they seem to be well made. They have proven to be durable, but the material does catch on sharp points - the thorns on the rose bushes caught the sleeves but they didn't poke through to his arms. The hubby says these are highly recommended, and they are priced to be a solid value for the money. ... show more

    • Doesn’t protect against scissors or thorns

I thought these protective arm sleeves might protect my arms when doing gardening work, for trimming roses or bougainvillea but thorns go right through them. Garden shears will cut through them. Scissors that aren’t super sharp take a couple of tries, but will cut into the yarns. A kitchen knife will not cut them when laid across a cutting board. A serrated knife will catch on the fabric and damage them, going part way through rather quickly and all the way through with a couple of tries, so I don’t think they would protect my arms very well when using a saw. They don’t protect against a cat’s claws at all. They would protect my arms when cutting vegetables, but most of my hands and fingers remain uncovered. I’ve never cut my arms during food preparation, only fingers. So no help there. They are lightweight, cool and comfortable to wear. They have Velcro adjustments at the top and thumbholes at the bottom of the sleeves which keeps them in place. You would have to wear safety gloves over them for most applications that I can think of, but even then, why not go with a heavier sleeve with more protection over a wider variety of jobs? ... show more

PROS: - I stuffed one of these sleeves with several layers of rolled-up bubble wrap to the approximate thickness of an man's arm. Then I placed it on my counter, picked up my sharpened 13" long Victorinox chef's knife and performed slash after slash at the "arm". I truly expected to see damage each time I checked for cuts but found none... sooo I increased the pressure of the subsequent slashes and still no damage to the sleeve. As I final test I held the stuffed sleeve at arm's length and slashed downwards with enough force to break a bone if it was inside the sleeve. It passed the test. I would recommend this sleeve for anyone who might find themselves in a situation where they might encounter a knife. Yes, It would really help in a knife fight- with substantial training. To those reviews complaining that it doesn't help with thorn bushes or stabbing... OF course it wont stop pointed objects from entering, it is after-all a weaved fabric, not a solid barrier like chain mail or thick leather. Thank you for your time. ... show more

    • Good for cutting and clearing away wooded areas!

I ordered these to use when I am cutting and clearing away brush at the back of our property, and they worked VERY well. They hold in minimal heat and are mostly lightweight. In my profession, I work around possibly infectious biological aerosols and blood splatter, so arms and wrists full of scrapes are a lot of tiny portals to potentially deadly infectious diseases, and the use of these sleeves has drastically reduced the amount of cuts I receive from outdoor work. After each use, I have placed the sleeves in a garment bag and dropped them in the washing machine on the hand wash setting, then I always lay them flat on a drying grid to dry (but only because I’m worried about stretching and not fitting anymore, as I’m quite small.). They have held up well to multiple wash cycles. I highly recommend! ... show more

I found these very effective for yard work, especially when trimming and mowing around our many evergreens. They are very effective in avoiding the constant scratches one receives yet comfortable due to the light weight and roomy fit. They help to avoid most punctures but a very sharp tip could possibly get through… something I have not experienced. The thumb holes help keep the bottom in place while Velcro at the top allows a wide range of adjustability for a majority of people. This really helps when cutting and carrying firewood. These stay in place, protecting my arms. I'm not sure how suited they would be for heavy industrial work but from what I've experienced they would help, especially with a good pair of gloves. ... show more
