  • Well-made, Excellent Value
Style: 6-Piece Glass Block
These knives are an excellent value for the money. Prior to ordering this set (three years ago!) I had a set of very expensive forged Henkels that I sadly lost in a divorce. Being on a budget, I purchased these and expected a mid-grade knife commensurate with the price point. I was pleasantly surprised to find that these knives compared favorably against my old set and less than a third of the price. They are solidly forged, thick spined, well-balanced, full tang with nice bolsters. They feel great in the hand, came shaving-sharp, and have held an edge through daily use (I love cooking) for three years. In fact, I am just now getting ready to sharpen them for the first time, and they still aren't that dull (I recently cut myself down to the bone when I slipped while washing my chef knife, and my babysitter didn't heed my warning and got a nice set of stitches from the paring knife). To address some of the negative reviews I have seen, I'll share some information about good knives. First, these are stain-free steel, NOT stainless. Stainless steel is generally far inferior for forging knife blades. The fact that "surgical stainless" is stamped on every junk knife is not a coincidence. A knife that doesn't rust when abused is probably not a great knife, will be difficult to sharpen, and won't have good edge retention. These knives will rust if you don't take care of them. Use your knife, was your knife, dry your knife thoroughly, and put it away. Secondly, these have excellent edge retention if used properly and maintained. Learn to use a honing steel and use it before each session with your knife. It will realign the microscopic serrations that are on the very edge of the blade and keep it sharp MUCH longer. Don't cut on glass, stone, hardwood, or cheap plastic boards. Get a bamboo cutting board and use it. Again, your blade will stay sharp almost indefinitely. Finally, never put your knives in the dishwasher. You are blasting them with abrasive soap and minerals and letting them rattle against other metal and glass objects before subjecting them to extreme heat and humidity. This will ruin your knives. Instead, get a long handled nylon brush and wash with hot water and mild soap. Don't use scouring pads, ajax powder, steel wool pads, or harsh cleaners. Take care of your tools and they will take care of you, and provide years of trouble-free service. Get a cheap set of beater knives and keep them in the drawer for the abusive tasks. If I had to find a complaint, after many many many hand washes, the logos on the blades have significantly faded. I can easily see which knives I use most. Do I care? Nope. This is a fantastic set of knives appropriate for any level chef and an incredible value. ... show more

  • Review with pictures and measurements (size referencing!)
Style: 6-Piece Glass Block
It's a good set. No doubt. I have had these knives for about 3 months now, so I have enough experience with them to make a claim. They cut wonderfully, from very large and firm vegetables to steak to cheese. I probably just use the chef's knife for 80% of the overall kitchen uses. This is what you have to be careful of, however: 1. They measure MORE than 14" in height, when measuring the set from bottom of stand to top of knife handle (see pics 1-2) 2. If you have low cupboards like me, you cannot remove the knives with one hand, you'll have to tilt the stand with one hand while grabbing the knife with the other 3. Same as above to put knife back in Take a look at the knives with the comparison against the height of a roll of paper towels and my Wusthof set, the standard wooden block that allows you to pull the knives out at an angle, thus requiring only one hand. The good: 1. The handles are very grippy, just awesome 2. The set looks fantastic and draws a lot of attention 3. No rust on the metal yet 4. Stand is easy to clean, as long as you don't put wet knives in, which will cloud the inside of the glass Thanks for reading my review. ... show more

  • Rusting knife
Style: 6-Piece Glass Block
I loved these from the start for the beauty and very sharp knives they are. Except now, less than two months later, the smallest knife began rusting starting from under the handle and working its way up. :((

  • The glass block alone is stunning, the knives are the best
Style: 6-Piece Glass Block
I needed good knives but I bought this in the first place for the block. This glass and stainless block is amazing, it’s beautiful, and it makes more sense than any other knife storage I’ve seen. First, the blades aren’t resting on anything. Unlike traditional wooden blocks, it’s terrifically easy to clean. Just take the top rack off, unscrew the tops of the pillars and it comes apart. Unlike a magnetic strip, the blades are covered so there is no danger in removing them from their place. The knives themselves? For thanksgiving, I prepared a turkey, a ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, zucchini, nine pies, 80 bacon and onion rolls, and several other dishes. The knives worked like magic. They are very sharp, but if you handle them with care, they do the work for you. I do not put them in the dishwasher but use a bit of dawn and a sponge, wipe them off and let them air dry prior to replacing them in the block. These are the best knives and best block I have ever had. ... show more

  • Fantastic Knifes !!
Style: 6-Piece Wood & Glass
Ok so I have a confession I'm addicted to buying chefs knifes I have them all Global, Shun, Henkel, Wusthoff, Bob Cramer carbon steel , Japanese hand made knifes I could go on and on, price was never a problem. The other day I went to a cooking class with my daughter in the city and had the pleasure of using the Mercer genisis knife ..- Well balanced, incredibly sharp and an absolute work horse. On the way home I went to Amazon and looked them up. To my surprise I was able to get a great 5 piece set for only 135 dollars. They arrived today and they are amazing I bought a set for my daughter as well GREAT KNIFES YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED ... show more

  • Go to Walmart
Style: 6-Piece Glass Block
I gave you a low review because these knives are NOT UP TO CULINARY STANDARDS. The first set all dull and one knife unusable...my son in law hasn't opened the second set you sent to replace the first set. You need to have better QUALITY CONTROL or drop the price of your knife set to $20.00... I've gotten better knife sets at Walmart and your knives are supposed to be CULINARY KNIVES and too expensive for the cheap quality ... show more

  • Rusts despite careful care
Style: 6-Piece Wood & Glass
Rusts! Have had it for less than a month and even with being extremely careful (handwashing, not leaving it sitting for any time in water) it is RUSTING. They are very sharp knives, but they are complete garbage due to rust. Very disappointed. I had done extensive research before purchasing these knives and had decided on these. For those who also were putting a lot of thought into this purchase, don’t waste your time. They are completely worthless. ... show more
