    • Wonderful polisher, but expensive for a 8mm throw DA.
I bought this to replace my other DA polisher from Harbor Freight, so most of this review will be a comparison to that. I don't have any other DA polishers to compare it to, though. Pros: + Weight: it is VERY light, and this saves my back after a day of polishing. My other DA weighs about a pound more. + Smoothness: I don't get any weird vibrations from this and it keeps the DA from "walking" on you to a minimum. + Noise: it's quiet, especially compared to my other DA. + Trigger lock: incredibly helpful! It took me a minute (longer, actually) to realize that you hold down the trigger lock button and then release the trigger to get it to engage. This was going to be a con before I realized I was dumb and fixed my user error. + Soft start: I like having this feature so I don't sling stuff everywhere since I'm not a pro. The soft start would be a problem if I hadn't figured out the trigger lock since sometimes you have to switch hands while using it, but with the lock I can start it one time and let it run. + Rotary grip: I definitely prefer the extended rotary style grip, especially when using it on tall trucks and SUVs. Cons: - Digital Torque Management: it works, but even with using the thinnest pads on the market you'll still have to adjust your technique to get rotation. Cars have so many curves these days that it takes some practice to get it right. It just won't spin on some of the nooks and crannies, though. - Value: there are other cheaper, more powerful 8mm throw DAs out there (Griot's, HF), or even a longthrow in the same price range (Adam's) if you want to go that route. And Meguiar's has a shorter warranty than Griot's or Adam's. - I hope I never get the power cord issue that a few people had, but I know Meguiar's will take care of me. Summary: The Meguiar's MT300 is a huuuge step up over my HF polisher and it's not even close. I would typically feel exhausted and very sore at the end of the day, but the MT300 makes it that much better for me. Everything about this polisher is better than my other one. It's value may be questionable compared to some others, so you'll just have to find a price range and feature list that is acceptable for you. Meguiar's has added another arrow to their quiver of outstanding Detailing Tools! This item came exactly as advertised and performed exactly as I expected. Great soft start function, very comfortable in my hands, and performed like a professional grade tool should. I ordered the DBP5, 5" backing plate with it as this is my preferred pad size. I would recommend that you order the backing plate & pad size of your choice as it does not come with a pad or backing plate. Most users have their preferred backing plate size already in their detailing bag but in case you don't be sure to order a backing plate and pads. I started by washing the car to remove loose contaminant and then moved to the Meguiar's G1016 Smooth Surface Clay kit to remove any bonded contaminant. I then used the Meguiar's DMCKIT5 DA Microfiber Correction System Kit to do some defect removal as I had some rather significant scratches in the clear coat. The DA Microfiber Correction Compound used with the New MT300 performed very well, removing the scratches and swirls in my black paint quickly. The finishing wax in the kit put just the right final touches on my paint creating incredible dark, swirl free reflectivity in the paint which took no time at all with the MT300 and the DA Microfiber wax pad. For my next project I will be ordering the new Meguiar's DFC5, 5" DA Foam Cutting Disc and the new DFP5, 5" DA Foam polishing Disk. It will be nice to compare these new foam pads to the DA Microfiber pads that I love. I also love the new backing plates that have the white indicator line that shows you if the pad is still spinning or if you are applying too much pressure while working the machine.
