  • In my Opinion as a pro detailer and paint correction specialist
I used this machine for the first time on my car today and I am very happy with it's performance. It has plenty of power, it runs pretty smooth, seems to be well balanced and just the right weight. It is a bit beefy but easy to control, the only little thing I found that was a little off and I hope they correct that in their next version would be a little more clearance between the battery and the vehicle when working in certain areas and contours. just keep that in mind because it can scuff the paint. ... show more

  • Great! But Look at Your Use Case
This is an amazing polisher! The caveat is that it is VERY heavy with a proper battery---so heavy that I only use it on the top panels of anything I work on. If you're a body builder, you might be able to fully cut a couple cars with it, but for me, it's strictly a hood/roof/trunk top polisher. Quality - This is in top-end territory for performance and overall quality, easily matching the top-end polishers from rupes et al. Plus, you're buying a tool from a company that actually knows how to make tools. Yea! I have no doubt it will last as long as you want it to. I've run over many of my Dewalt XT tools before with my truck and they keep on keeping on. Batteries - If you're looking at buying this and are not already invested in Dewalt batteries, plan on spending at least $160 on a couple of 6AH batteries. The 5AH batteries work, but will only run around 45 minutes each. The 6AH ones perform much better, you can expect over an hour out of those. Since I only use this on the top panels, 2 6AH are more than I need to finish a car. If you're planning on using it for the whole car, you're going to need more than 2 6AHs for a mow down, and even more if you're going 2-stage. Overall - This is going to be a game changer for most detailers. The weight actually helps on the top panels, I find it to be the perfect amount of pressure and can just steer it around. Not having to worry about the cord is worth it, along with the huge benefit of having something that doesn't require electricity for remote quick defect removal. It's an excellent tool, but I highly recommend that you have a lighter, plug in DA for the sides in addition to this. It's just too heavy to be your only DA IMO. If you're a pro detailer, just buy it already. It's a complete game changer. ... show more

  • Great if you have DeWalt batteries already
If you haven't been waxing your car with an orbital tool, you're not getting the wax protection you need. This tool is well-balanced and very easy to get into the small corners. Add some pads and you're ready to seal your car's surface for months. It's best if you already have DeWalt 2ah batteries because you'll need two for a vehicle. Larger batteries make the tool a little heavy. ... show more

  • Good enough for DIYer
I used this machine to buff out some heavy scratches but mostly light scratches and swirl marks. I prepared my SAV for a nano ceramic coating. It’s heavy with a 4 amp hour battery. The trigger is sensitive and can accidentally turn on. The rotary speed dial is perfectly placed and gives plenty of control. I used this on a 2021 BMW X6M. I think I used 4 or 5 batteries to do the whole car over a couple of days. I already had the batteries so this wasn’t a big deal for me. I used a variety of pads: Eurofiber Microfiber, microfiber, and chemical guys sponge pads. It got the job done! For what it is I think it’s a little expensive but maybe I’ll use it again on my family or friends cars. This is the only cordless RO machine I’ve ever used so I can’t compare ... show more

  • Game Changer
I'm a pro detailer for 19 years now. I have a Rupes Bigfoot LHR21 II, a Griots G9 and now this Dewalt. I got this cordless da for light to medium defect removal, removing 3000 grit wetsanding scratches and polishing in preparation for 9H coatings. It does all of those things well! Weightwise, it weighs a little over 5 lbs without a battery, same as the Rupes. The Griots is noticeably lighter. The Dewalt is a chonky boy with a 6ah battery, ngl. It's noisier than the Rupes, but quieter than the Griots. I wear headphones anyway, so it's not a big deal. Definitely not as loud as a HF da! I did a full application of Meguiars d300 (the pink stuff) on an Accord and it turned out well. Same results as the Griots or the Rupes, which is great. My pad didn't get matted up as often as it it would with the Griots; that was a concern I'm relieved to say is a non-issue. I'm cheap, so I run 6ah 3rd party batteries (which I get on Amazon) and for the full process on the Accord, I was left with 16% battery life. Not bad, considering these batteries I use are probably more like 5ah. The 5 inch backing plate I wasn't crazy about at first, but man is it nice being able to maneuver better on these modern panels and with less stalling! I can't say how well it'd do with a proper heavy cut, as I'll continue to use the Rupes for that. The Rupes is meant for aggressive cutting, as it has a 21mm throw. This Dewalt has a 15mm throw, so it's perfect for light to medium defect removal, polishing and waxing. I do much more of the light to medium duty work than the heavy cutting, so this tool is the bees knees for me! Warranty is 3 years, Griots is lifetime and Rupes is 1 year and then lifetime $95 flat rate repairs for everything excluding the main shaft. The only real con is that, fully loaded, it's heavy. But I'm happy to build a little more forearm strength to not have to run cords everytime I need to do a job, especially a quick spot correction! ... show more
