    • Do exactly as the name suggests - they amplify sounds.
I currently use, and am dependent upon, very expensive, multi level, digital hearing aids and my reason for buying these bottom dollar hearing amplifiers was to have an emergency backup. Right out of the box one of the amplifiers did not work but I have used the other one for a couple of hours. As has been previously reviewed these amplifiers do exactly what their name suggests, it will amplify ALL sounds. It this is what you need then a working pair will do the trick for you. But, if you are like me and need help in discriminating speech ... not so good. At first the startling, hollow sound of your own voice is alarming but you can adapt to that. This product, as expected, fails when compared with my more expensive digital, programmable hearing aids. I gave this product three stars because it does amplify sounds, the three different sizes of ear pieces provided give you a chance to have a proper fit and the cost is minimal. Of course the cost would be even less if both devices worked. Due to the cost of return shipping I will not bother with returning the faulty amplifier. ... show more

    • Worked well, but...
Got these for my mom who is in a nursing home. She has a roommate & they both are in their room a lot during the day watching their separate tvs. They tend to inch up the volume on their sets during the day trying to hear their own tv shows over top of whatever the other person is watching. We thought this was something that could help my mom watch her tv in peace without having to turn the volume up so high. We knew she wouldn't be a fan of more expensive brands with headphones so the in-ear plugs seemed perfect. Unfortunately, these are not directional in that you can't just increase the volume for one thing. Everything was amplified instead, including the noises out in the hallway, so this didn't help her particular situation. However, I'm giving them 4 stars because in a different setting where there isn't so much background noise to contend with they would work great, especially for the price! I wouldn't recommend them in noisier settings, though, unless you want EVERYTHING to be louder. ... show more

Thank you MD Hearing aid for the free trial on your product. I had purchased the aids for my Father who has chronic hearing lost, that has progressed through the years. Unfortunately; your product did not help. He complained about to much background noises, and could not hear closer sounds. Also; had trouble with the fitting of devices inside his ears. He tried all the size cups that were available, but none of them seemed to work. Seemed like the devices were using up batteries every 3-4 days as well. I had called the customer service rep about these issues. They were very helpful and concerned about the problems that we were experiencing. The return of items customer care was also very helpful, and had no problems what so ever in receiving the total refund after the 45 day free trial. Thank you so much for the awesome customer care! I ordered this for my 85 year old Grandmother. She was so thrilled to get it, said it worked wonderfully. But she did note that it is not truly a hearing aid. She said it is more of an amplifier. So she puts one hearing aid in one ear and this hearing aid in the other when she's outside of the house going somewhere. She bought several of these because they don't last very long. hearing aids are really just too expensive and that's why she hasn't gotten another pair and hers doesn't work like it should. she uses this to kind of help with the muffled sounds that she experiences. I have to keep buying these for her because they just don't work very long!!! This is my 4th pair in just a few years time. They do NOT last. NOT a great product!! ... show more

    • Functions Well & Improves Ability to Hear - Sound Quality is OK at Best - Good starting point for First Hearing Device
This was a great "starter" hearing product for my mom who is in the early to moderate stages of hearing impairment. This was a great way to get her accustomed to using what would eventually be full-fledged hearing aids. This warmed her up to the idea and allowed her to see why "real" hearing aids (such as Miracle Ear, etc.) are far more expensive. There are many brands of hearing aids besides Miracle Ear, and the prices and insurance coverage vary widely. This product doesn't function on the quality level of real hearing aids but does help the person hear things a bit better, just not with the kind of quality found in real hearing aids. Good starter product or alternative for those who don't have insurance or cannot afford hearing aids. ... show more
