  • Update 9 months later
October 2024 Update: OK: 9 months later all drives but one are still going. In June (after 5 months) One drive started to fail S.M.A.R.T. tests, and showed some bad sectors so I sent it back. Good news - There were no hassles with getting another replacement drive. Here's my advice regarding anyone considering these drives: 1. Buy a few and setup redundancy. The savings are there, and the extra drive(s) will provide a failsafe. 2. Customer service is good, and will help if needed. cs@dbskyusa.com 3. Keep a spare box handy with the original packing (Just in case a return is needed) 4. Run S.M.A.R.T. tests regularly, or set your NAS to automatically run them. It will demonstrate the disk's health 12 and 14TB drives provide the better cost per TB options these days. So with all this, I would STILL buy these, because the prices are fantastic, and the drives run well. January 2024 Let's Go!! In short, this is a good buy! I've been running Truenas for years, and this is my 4th build. I buy renewed/refurbished drives 3 or 4 at a time and build in a hot spare. For this pricing I jumped on purchasing many drives. I was hoping for low hours (since they're renewed) but imagine that all of my drives had less than 10 hours on them! My build is ZFS2, meaning I can lose up to 2 drives with zero data loss. Truenas is purring along and I'm 2 weeks into a solid build with zero SMART errors or problems. The 5 year warranty is outstanding - even better than WaterPanther, so it's worth a look in my opinion! ... show more

  • Cheap and Easy NAS.
I have a router that has a USB connection. This hard drive in a 3.5" powered enclosure makes a perfect NAS upgrade. Yes, it's as slow as any other hard drive, but 12TB is ginormous. And, this thing is completely silent. I can use it to backup up crap on my network - stuff that it's nice to have, but I won't cry too much if it's lost. I can't beat the price. Long-term reliability? No clue. ... show more

  • Good value Drive
The first one I bought was dead on arrival. It kept beeping as soon as I plugged in. I contacted their customer service email and they were very helpful. I bought another one and it worked straight out of the box and came back with no error or bad sectors. I returned the first one and kept the second. So it can be a hit or miss right out of the gate because of shipping or other factors but with a 5 year warranty and it scans clean the first time you should be good. ... show more

  • Haven't thoroughly tested but they seem good!
I was a little nervous to get used drives but they came in really good condition. If I was only getting one I probably wouldn't have gone this route but since I was getting two I thought the likelihood of both failing at the same time would probably be very low (I put them in RAID 1). So far they're working great in my Synology NAS it seems that I'm only able to use 10.5Tb of the 12Tb which is very weird to me. I'd expect maybe up to a couple gigs off but nearly two terabytes is suspicious to me. Maybe I missed something though I don't know. I'm not a electronics know it all I just know a bit about many things. I received two different models One had a silver casting and was very heavy the other was black sheet metal I think very similar to a barracuda drive (manufacturer) but because they took off all the identifying everything I have no idea what it was before. I was going to get an 8 TB barracuda drive to match the 8 TB one that I already have but I'm very glad that I upgraded storage because I'm already up to 4Tb. That was only possible due to the low price here so I am happy. (so far) When researching I saw a lot of negative... not reviews but comments or opinions twords refurbished drives but there was the occasional high praise so I decided to judge for myself. Especially with Amazon gives a 60day warranty by default if it doesn't work ship it back and get your money, its worth a try for the savings I figured. So far I'm very pleased with my decision. ... show more

It's my second drive and this one is D.O.A have to send it back. I Guese I got a bad lemon. It's a gamble buying a refurbished used hard drive. ... show more

  • Works fine
Installed internally on my Windows 11 Pro system as a replacement/upgrade for a 2TB Western Digital Black drive. Had no issues with it at all for the past couple of weeks.

  • Like new old stock
Preface: Bought a set to upgrade my existing NAS box that was previously using two 5tb HGST drives in RAID 0. They were pretty old by now (made in 2017) and were bought at a time before I learned that WD had bought out HGST in full; thus, any warranty those drives had wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. Anyway... Plan was to start with one that was big enough to let me bulk move the data presently on the NAS RAID, before slotting in the main set. Expected *some* wear, true. But upon setting them onto a dock to check with CrystalDiskInfo for any errors... no. According to it, none of the drives even had more than an hour of power on time at all. Maybe I lucked out with some new old stock models, or maybe it's fresh guts in an older shell. First time also going from a RAID 0 or 1, to a RAID 5 on anything. Wasn't expecting the extra time to synchronize, but in all fairness the drives have been handling themselves perfectly since arrival. ... show more

  • 1 out of 5 failed
After about 24 hours, 1 out of 5 disks I ordered started failing and needed replacement. Also, very very loud.
