We really needed this thing. Before our neighbor moved away he used to smash his aluminum beer cans with a sledge hammer on the concrete of his patio. He did it in the early morning. Our Pepsi cans kept stacking up, overflowing those great big garbage bags, too many of them to fit into my Mini. The sledge hammer technique was out of the question. We found the Heavy-Duty Wall-Mounted Smasher & got to work. We smashed about a garbage bag full before the handle fell apart. It seems that the screws at each end of the handle, because of the motion of the leaver, unscrew themselves. You can replace the nut yourself if you expect this happening, but it was a surprise to us that the nut landed in a pile of leaves. Besides the Crusher showed too much promise to give up on it. So, we took the nut that remained on the opposite end of the handle to the hardware store & got 6 nuts of the same size. We now expect this sort of thing to happen because of the motion of the handle & its attachment method, so the backup nuts. The volume of smashed cans is reduced. They all fit into the very hefty bags & fit into my Mini for the trip to the Reynolds recycle place. But with the reduction in volume comes a density. The bags full of squashed cans are heavy. The crusher is solidly attached to one of the supports to our lanai, & we are now experienced squashers. The Metal Can Crusher is noisy, but not as noisy as a sledge hammer slamming down onto an aluminum can on concrete.
