My dog has a very thick coat of fur and sheds horribly. I have tried just about every style/type of brush out there and they didn't get the undercoat very well. This one gets right in there and lifts the undercoat out. It's still not a fast process, but faster and easier than the others.

Although this looks like some kind of gardening tool to me, the teeth are rounded and release the hair easily. Of course, it's steel so use it with a very gentle touch. I just lightly and slowly brush my lab's fur with it, in the direction her hair grows, and it removes the shed undercoat even using only the wider detangling side. She's still a little leery of it but it doesn't seem to pull her hair or hurt her (I wouldn't use it if it did), and I'm sure it helps her stay a little cooler in the summer with the undercoat she's shedding out of the way. I have a Border Collie. I got this because it was cheap! But for $12, you get what you pay for. I did have the FURMURATOR that lasted 5-6 years and was MUCH better though 4 times the price. My dog HATES this thing. When brushing do this SLOWLY and you really must be "SUPER" gentle with the animal but he still hates it. The videos show folks brushing fast etc., they are not being forthright. By the way, leave your house, go to an open field and brush. It is a complete mess with hair everywhere including on yourself. ... show more

Thought about it too long and finally bought the shedding brush. We have a long-coat German Shepherd and this works the best from all the other brushes and combs/rakes. Had a fur…ator and that would get stuck. This is glides through and helps remove the matted hair. We do little bits everyday, so our dog gets comfortable with it. But it really works like others say. And we have piles of fur going into the trash, too. :) Oh, as for value for money… definitely worth every penny!! ... show more

Got this for my German Shepherd. Wow, does a great job loosening up the top coat and making it look nice. Flip it over to the more teeth side and it grabs the undercoat gently but with good amounts of hair removal. Seems to be well made - very glad to have this.

This brush does wonders for the shedding season. Make sure you have a lint roller handy. It takes a lot off but not too much. It helps so much and makes our feline kitty feeling soft. We do it as a monthly tradition with her nails with a tube of tuna. Would highly recommend this product. I couldn't wait to use this brush since I've never used a deshedder before. I sat my dog down, did a tiny one inch stroke on his fur, gasped when I saw all the fur I thought it had "ripped" out, and literally dropped the tool. Okay, YouTube time! It was totally normal and didn't rip out his fur at all. Totally embarrassed but I'm sharing that tidbit for those, like me, who are using a deshedder for the first time and have no Idea of what they're doing or what to expect. It took a little over a week to get the undercoat out of my Newfoundland/Labrador mix with this tool. There was a very large surface area to cover and a VERY thick undercoat. Luckily his coat is more Lab than Newfoundland so I didn't have to use the cutting side because he doesn't get matted. I can't believe my groomer or vet have never told me about deshedding before. All these years I've been taking him in for a "Summer cut" twice a year where they shave his top coat and left his undercoat intact. Apparently, that's super bad for dogs. I spent over an hour a day for 10 days removing his undercoat, working in small sections for about 10 minutes each session. Sometimes my dog would get up and walk away before his 10 minutes were up. Each stroke, the brush would be completely full of fur and sometimes my dog would be more tolerant of the grooming than others. I wouldn't say he hated it but he would only tolerate me grooming him for so long. I didn't want to stress him since it was his first experience and he's going to have to get this done in the fall so I certainly want the experience to be as positive as possible. Now that we're done, I use this once a week to go over his coat quick for maintenance and have been using a zoom groom every day to pick up stuff that this tool has missed. The zoom groom is much more efficient now that almost all of his undercoat has been removed or at least loosened. My dog's coat is so black and shiny now that he doesn't have dull, dead hair all mixed in. I don't believe that it reduces shedding as much as they say it does but it did completely remove my dogs undercoat as it was meant to do and I'm sure my dog feels more comfortable now.
