  • Beautiful, sturdy, recommend different order of assembly
Color: White Size: Twin/Twin
A friend and I assembled the Max and Lily double bunk and two triple bunks, all of which are identical in their part numbers and assembly process. The double bunk was top quality and easy to assemble, but the triples, although clearly the same in their parts and assembly, were not nearly the same quality, so beware the newer version of the double bunk may not be as high quality as the one I received. The directions are easy to follow if you pay close attention to detail. However, we assembled them in a different order so that we weren't trying to lift a completed bed into the air while fitting the legs onto the metal rods that connect it to the lower bunk. Instead, we assembled the top bunk in its place, on top of the lower bunk. We started by assembling all of the headboards/footboards. Each bunk is slightly different, so be sure to keep the pairs together. Then we connected the bottom bunk head and foot boards with the 2 long boards that hold the slats. We pushed the bolts in all the way to help hold up the long boards, then pulled the bolts out one at a time to screw them into the nut, using an impact driver. We fully tightened every bolt at each step. We stopped there, skipped some pages, and inserted the 5" metal rods into the tops of the legs, and put the top bunk's head and foot boards on those metal rods, on top of the bottom bunk. Then we attached both back guard rails at the same time by first hammering the dowels into the head/footboards with a rubber mallet and then guiding the holes in the ends of the boards onto the dowels sticking out. Then we attached the boards that hold up the slats, again pushing in all of the bolts to help hold it in place while we removed one at a time to screw the bolt into the nut. Then we attached the steel bar on the top bunk. Then the slats. Then the front guard rails. And finally the ladder. The double bunk took us 3.5 hours because we took our time to fully understand the directions and to sort all of the nuts and bolts into different bowls. I highly recommend using an impact driver--you can see in the pictures how tight we got the bolts. The beds are sturdy and beautiful. I bought 6' foam pipe covers and cut them in half lengthwise and duct taped them to the underside of the steel bar to keep the children from bumping their heads. I paid more for the Max and Lily bunk mattresses and glad I did--they are high quality and a perfect fit. Can't wait for my grandkids to come visit! ... show more

  • Easy to assemble, quality product
Color: Grey Size: Twin/Full
I purchased this bed for my 4 year old daughter as a good transitional bed she can use now and hopefully into her teens. I am skeptical of large pieces of furniture that come in one box and require assembly. The shipping box was sturdy with normal scuffs and wear from shipping. The contents were packed well with pieces being individually wrapped and protected. I ordered the gray finish and all of the parts were well coated and there was no foul off gassing from the parts. The wood is solid pine, which is a soft wood, but all of the components were machined well and fit together great. I had no issues with missing pieces or miss drilled holes, and no alignment issues at all. The hardware supplied was good quality, with the visible bolts powder coated to match the finish. I recommend using slightly longer screws when securing the mattress support slats to the side rails, as the ones supplied were not long enough to bite into the rails. I used wood glue when assembling the vertical slats and end posts for the head and foot board, figured it couldn't hurt. I glued the ladder assembly as well. When screwing down the mattress support slats, I loosened the side rail bolts and used a ratchet strap to pull the rails tight to the end of the slats. The mattress support slats seemed like they were cut a little short, so by using the ratchet strap I was able to pull the side rails tight to the ends of the mattress support slats without marring the finish on the rails. It worked great doing that and using the longer screws that I mentioned. I may add additional slats to the full and twin frames for extra support. Overall I am totally pleased with the end result, quality parts, finish and hardware. The instructions were clear and illustrated parts and hardware well. I had about 3 hrs into the assembly and taking my time with gluing certain parts. Definitely recommend this bed for quality and price. ... show more

  • High-Quality Solid Wood + Smart Design(s) and Affordability = Max and Lily
Color: Natural Size: Twin/Full
This bunk bed is well constructed and was really easy to put together. Much easier and faster than some previous Amazon reviews have mentioned (it took my wife and I about an hour).. Everything from the hardware baggies to each piece of wood was well labeled to make assembly as easy as possible. We ordered the "Max & Lily Solid Wood Twin over Full Bunk Bed, Natural" the finish on this bunk bed reflects quality workmanship and attention to detail. I like the nice touches like felt on the backside of the ladder hardware to prevent rubbing, the beveled edges on wood, the added ridges on the ladder steps and the recessed hardware. The bed also allows for the addition of a trundle, which we wished we had ordered if we had the additional resources. The instructions are only illustration, but it's pretty obvious if you have a good co-worker with you (thanks to my wife). This bunkbed does allow for the top bunk to be located on either side of the bottom bunk, this allows for greater options if we need to relocate this bed in the future. We wouldn't hesitate to buy this bunk bed again, as we procrastinated for too long. The 14 in. guardrails on the top bunk also provides increased safety and a parent’s peace of mind that they won’t accidentally roll out! Again, I just want to emphasize how grateful I am that Max and Lily have taken the time to engineer solid constructed furniture made to last. It’s very refreshing to see real wood “ready-to-assemble furniture” focused on high-quality, modern design and affordability. ... show more
