    • I would recommend but with a warning

I purchased 3 of the saddle stools. They were fairly easy to assemble. The pieces are well marked and the instructions are easy to follow, so they didn't take very long to put together. We did use a different wood glue that we had on hand instead of what came with the stools (based on other's reviews). The crossbars that needed to be glued and screwed were not pre-drilled in the legs, so my husband had to really push to screw them in. The one bar (D) had the screw holes on the wrong side. I emailed Maven Lane CS (their only form of contact) to see if they would replace just that one piece. It took them about 4-5 days to return my email but they said they would send out that piece. I was happy to not have to return the entire stool. Overall the benches are beautiful and comfortable and I would definitely recommend them. Just beware that they may not be without some issues in the assembling process. ... show more

    • Almost what was expected
Color: Natural Wood Style: Counter - 26" seat height
These counter stools are really high quality. Very heavy and a very firm and comfortable seat makes them worth the price. The one thing I was not expecting was the color. I ordered the natural finish since I'm using them at our lake house and wanted them to blend with the natural wood items I have. The finish looked like natural on the description on line, however, these are painted finishes. The natural is a definite "harvest gold color" and is antiqued with a dark wash. Attractive if you want a gold finish. I did not. You can tell they are painted because the smell of oil-based paint is still present when they are unpacked. I have no problem with a painted finish, but it should be listed in the product description as such. When the seats wear out or soil, I will change the seat and repaint the stools another color. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the quality, but beware of the finishes! That's the only reason for the four stars and not five. ... show more

    • Wobbles, and distressed look is messy

You can ignore complaints about assembly. Some people just lack basic spatial skills that make IKEA a torture house. You should already know what kind of person you are. If you can follow basic directions and are not disabled, you can easily build this. My complaint is that it wobbles. No adjustments are possible the way the holes are drilled, and since there's gluing in the home assembly process, you can't really take it apart to rectify, even if you had the more advanced woodworking skills that most of us don't have anyway. Saving grace is it doesn't rock under weight, it's stable when sat on. Super unlikely anyone but you will notice, but like that blemish you hone in on in the mirror that no one else notices, it's still frustrating. My other complaint is that I bought the distressed version, but all they did is rub in a pasty white stain, and not very artfully either. Makes it look a weird kind of artificially dirty. Still recommend, but if your a handy woodworker, level it before you glue. Also maybe stick to non-distressed options. Otherwise very happy, great cushioning, stylish, perfect height, will be keeping this one. ... show more

I ordered three of these. They came fast. They are nice stools and it was very easy to assemble. The only issue I had was one of the large bolts was missing for one stool. I contacted their customer service, and they responded very quickly and shipped the part right away. I just received the part and finished the assembly for the last stool. I initially ordered the round backless bar stools, however they were just too big (19" seat) and overwhelmed the bar which is only about 12 inches wide (old style bar that is higher than the kitchen counter). I returned those and ordered 4 of these saddle style stools. I took a star off for the overall issue with 3 out of 4 stools where they wobbled from side to side. The legs were just slightly off but this was easily remediated with felt pads that I cut to size & filled up the gap. I also removed all the plastic caps on the legs and changed to felt for my hardwood floors. I had no problems assembling these by myself, instructions were clear and didn't take very long. The key is to have all your parts set up ready and ready to use around the stool seat and your hardware ready. I'd say this was about a 2 out of 10 in terms of difficulty and any novice should be able to do it. They look great and are almost exactly what I wanted. The color of the fabric could be a bit more white (it has a bit of a yellow tinge to the color) but for the price these were a bargain in my opinion. ... show more
