I had bought 2 obsolete toilet seats about ten years ago and used one and put the other up for future use. I ended up needing it this year and the plastic hinges were cracked and brittle and after a month one side of the hinges crumbled apart! I tried to find another new seat and they are discontinued but the company had two in stock for over $200.00 a piece!! My seat was basically new as I had been storing it until this year! The downside was that I had to locate a spray paint that matched the color of my seat for these hinges! I did find one that matched the seat perfectly and I had to paint these hinges! These fit my American Standard "Antiquity" PERFECTLY. They appear to be an exact replacment in terms of size and alignment. This product was a really good answer to a problem created by American "Standard". Despite the implication of the name, A.S. made this particular product FAR from standard. When the hinge on my seat broke, I attempted to simply replace the entire seat with parts from the local big box stores. Neither the elongated seat nor the round seat options fit the, now out of production, "Antiquity", high dollar, one-piece toilet made by American "Standard". When I contacted them, A.S. did not offer the slitest assistance or any attempt to reconcile the problem they created by making an odd sized bowl/seat combination and then offering no parts support. They did not even suggest that replacement hinges and bumper pads may be available. Thanks to some detailed pictures and information on Amazon, I decided to gamble on making these work. It turned out to be a good decision -- no modification required -- everything lined up perfectly. The only reason I gave this product 4 stars rather than 5 is that the plastic these hinges are made if feels much more flimsy than the original. However, for less than $10 dollars I would have no problem replacing them with this set again when needed. ... show more

These fit the Kohler which had chrome metal hinges originally. Didn't feel like spending 40 bucks on a new seat in my basement bath so these fit the bill. Personally I think they are expensive for what they are but couldn't seem to find a simple set of hinges at any of the local hardware stores. We live in a society of throwing things away and replacing brand new when something breaks. I like to fix what I have whenever possible. ... show more

As most people have said, these are surprisingly difficult to find. Lowes didn't have replacement hinges and a new seat with hinge was twice what this cost. So, trying to save money, we bought this. Mistake. There are two issues with these hinges: 1) These are unbelievably cheaply made. They probably cost $0.10 to make, and $3 would have been too much to pay. The plastic that they're made of feels like it would break easily, but I'll never find out. 2) They don't fit properly. These hinges were clearly designed for a very thick toilet seat, like the cushioned ones. However we have a standard wooden seat. It works, but it looks awful and makes things awkward. The back of the lid sits about an inch higher than the front and tilts so much that the feet on the underside of the lid no longer touch the seat when closed. Besides looking bad, it means that there is no longer a gap at the front between the lid and the seat to put your finger into to lift the lid. Also, I usually sit on the lid while my son is in the bathtub, but now it's uncomfortable because it's tilting. It also puts a lot of stress on the hinge, which bends as I sit on it. After all of this we ended up just buying a new seat. Of course as soon as we did that, we discovered a better-looking hinge replacement for about 1/3 this one's price at Home Depot. I feel like I just flushed this money down the toilet. ... show more

What I didn't like was that the instruction on the package only showed the bolt assembly and not the rest of the hinges. Luckily the picture on the Amazon listing gave me more detail of how to arrange the parts for them to work as designed. You have to use some common sense. The lid hinges fit perfect, just had trouble with the seat because the hole spacing was a little narrow. I just had to put the screws at a slight angle and they straightened out along the way. The seat was replaced once so it didn't match the lid. Wanted to keep the lid because color matched the toilet color perfect. My toilet is close to 50 years old. ... show more
