Top Amazon Reviews

  • Beautiful, comfortable, phenomenal performance.
These are my favorite headphones I've ever owned and used, and have been my daily drivers since October 2017, so I now feel confident enough in my opinion of them. I'll also say that I don't write reviews that often so forgive me if my format isn't incredible, and I'm not great at describing things. To start I'll talk about the styling/form: these headphones are absolutely beautiful without being too in-your-face, a very understated style with very nice materials. The lambskin pads are a delight, and I personally don't experience any fatigue when wearing them (even after listening to music for 4+ hours). The one gripe I do have about the actual design element is that they are very heavy - no fatigue for me but I do like to listen to music about an hour before going to sleep and I can't listen lying on my back because they slip off, and whenever I'm doing anything I have to be a little cautious so as not look down too quickly (they are both heavy and have a swivel function - dinged them within the first week of ownership) Not a tremendous amount of noise bleeds in either, though there is some. Now onto the reliability: I have not experienced a single problem with these headphones at all - and I'm clumsy with everything (I typically go through a pair of headphones once every 3-4 months). Perhaps that's because these are genuinely my favorite headphones and I'm much more cautious with them, or that they are just built really well (which is true). On phone use, I use a Galaxy S8+ and it drives the headphones adequately - for music which I want to be louder; R&B, rap, etc. I would want it to be a little louder. Any other device or music player would work excellently with even the most basic of amps. That's not to say they're quiet on the phone, because they're certainly not, just not as loud as I would like for some genres. Now onto the important part - the sound. What do I even say? F*@#ing phenomenal. I'll start by saying that these headphones are for, for lack of a better term, the more playful audiophile. They're not perfect from a sound engineers perspective or a genuine hardcore audiophile - but for someone like me, an audiophile that prefers colorful sound, they're perfect (though that's not to say they're not audiophile friendly, they're phenomenal for anyone including true audiophiles). They are powerful, lows, mids, and highs are all punchy and vibrant, everything is there and beautifully proportioned. The low end is nice and full, without being overpowering, and doesn't in any way interfere with any other range. The mids are perfect and did not go neglected, and the highs are clear and vibrant. Voices are nice and clear, very accurate. You can hear each independant detail on these headphones, which is awesome, and the sound range is wide - but not too wide and open that nothing feels to be in harmony. There is nothing that feels amiss, nothing that doesn't work quite right, I've never owned a pair of headphones that are literally a delight every time I put them on, and I never go without being satisfied. And I have owned a plethora of high quality headphones (and borrowed a couple of headphones + dacs and amps that I couldn't dream to afford) I listen to every genre there is out there, there isn't a single genre that these headphones don't work with. Jazz, lofi hiphop, metal, folk, classical, contemporary, ambient - it works with everything and will not let you down at all. F$%!king hell, I love these cans. ... show more

  • The sound I needed
Note: the stand in the picture was a separate purchase. These have some weight for them, but I knew that going in from other reviews and research, but the weight is due to the quality of the material used in the manufacturing of the headphones. I I Ike that the earcups are oblong vs round, the fit my ears comfortably and securely. While I can feel the weight while wearing them, I still find them comfortable, even for longer periods of time. It comes with 2 cable of slightly different length. The cables can plug into either side of the headset and can even daisy chain to a second headset so two people can listen to the same content. The magnetic earcups are a nice touch and they seal to my head comfortably. These are not noise canceling but do muffle the sound fro.ither sources without interfering with the headphone sound, but still allow you to hear things going on around you. A reminder these are wired and do not have wireless capability (there is a different M&D model that is wireless. All in all, I'd recommend these. ... show more

  • Bought 3 headphones in order to compare
I needed wired headphones (I have already best in class wireless Sony XM1000). So I did research and in price segment ~$140 I choose 3 (out maybe 15 different brands). Sennheiser, Audiothechnica and MD. I received Sennheiser - sound quality - OK, light weight and good looking. I ordered them first because of discount they gave me. I am picky about usability and they feels super light, but the plastics and fabric they made of keep me believe I will order a spare pads soon. Also, I was ready to stay with them, but one little detail pushed me to go try next. The Sennheiser wire cord was touching my shoulder which annoyed me (not a big deal but I noticed it at a very first moment I tried it). So my number 2 was AudioThehnica, but MD sent me discount moving it to higher priority. I've ordered it, received it and was flabbergasted. Happy me, I didn't see problems like in reviews. I can state that I am a big fan of them. They feel like $500 product - genuine leather, metal (aluminum) and the SOUND. Will stay with them despite of Audiothechinca 22000 reviews with 4.5 raiting. MD promised the headphones good for decades - so, I trust them. Thank you MD Engineers, the guy who pushing the discounts, and the business analyst who researched for the engineers the average human ear size )))! ... show more

  • Outstanding headphones for the money
I'll admit I am an amateur audiophile; I am certainly not as good perceiving some of the particular qualities and nuances others do in headphones, but these headphones are phenomenal in my view, especially at the price point. I have a pair of Bowers and Wilkins P5's and I think the MD40's are better. I also have a pair of Audeze LCD-2 and, while they certainly have better sound overall, the differences are not as distinguishable as I would have imagined. I've actually purchased 5 pair of the MD40's and give them as business gifts - because when the price gets under $150 you can't afford not to buy them - hands down the best gift you will give for $150. Other headphones that start with "B" don't compare, except for B&O and B&W. ... show more

  • Very cool look, very average everything else
These are not Bluetooth headphones. Amazon includes them in the "bluetooth" filter, but they're not Bluetooth. As such, these are very much overpriced. They look very cool, they are comfortable, and the metal (not plastic) pieces make for a solid build. But the sound quality is so underwhelming. I would have kept my set if they were in fact Bluetooth as described, but as is there's no way. I just want a decent set of metal, Bluetooth headphones. I'm tired of tossing expensive headphones because some cheap plastic hinge broke. ... show more

  • Awesome worth the buy
This product is worth the buy. I don’t mind that it has a wire. Honestly I come from the wire generation anyway and to be able to hook it into my laptop is great. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to buy this. Very good quality of build and comfortable to wear.
