I bought this clock to replace a cheap bedside alarm clock that I'd been using for the last 15 years. I got fed up with the old clock because it consistently lost time - to the point where I had to set it ahead 3-4 minutes every week or so to get it back to the correct time. I wanted to upgrade to something that would keep time more accurately, and Marathon delivered. I thought the clock was very easy to set up. I placed by an open window the first night to pick up the signal, and by morning it was synced up. It has remained so for the whole time I've had it - about a month at this point. I'm also very satisfied with how it functions as an alarm clock. The alarm is easy to set, and the snooze button is easy to find when you're fumbling around for it in the morning. The snooze time is five minutes. Some reviewers have complained that the alarm is too quiet. That has not been my experience. Unless you know you are an unusually heavy sleeper, I think you will find the volume adequate. Some reviewers have also said the display is dim and hard to see at a desk. I can see how that might be the case in a bright room. As a bedside clock, however, I think it nails the optimal brightness balance. The main display is dim enough not to distract sleepers who prefer dark rooms, but the snooze button backlight is plenty bright when you need to roll over and check the time. I also appreciate the secondary bells and whistles. The thermometer matches up with others in the room and seems relatively accurate. The humidity reader is interesting to check from time-to-time, but I'm not as convinced of it's accuracy. Sometimes it varies widely from another sensor I have elsewhere in the room. The heat/comfort index feels more like a gimmick, although I appreciate how Marathon tried to equip the device with a wide range of useful information. Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase, and I would consider this clock a good option for anyone thinking about using it as an alarm clock. ... show more

    • Makes a great desk clock

To start off with, I’ve had this clock since 2019 it’s 2023 and the clock is still running on the same set of batteries that it shipped with, unlike similar ones I’ve had that need new ones every year. This is with it being able to sync the time every day, multiple backlight uses every day (my home office is a little dark) and occasionally using the alarm function. Unlike other clocks that tend to use a blue backlight this one uses orange LEDs that contrast with the display just right that it is still easily readable, in my opinion blue is a terrible color choice for an LCD backlight because the digits blend in with it. As for the layout of the display I appreciate the size of the digits for the time taking priority and being much larger. Update: I am upgrading my review after living with this clock for a year. I have 3 of these things now and they are great! Still some viewing/display issues, but most can be worked around based upon where you put it. Sturdy, reliable and I love all the info it displays. A winner and a keeper! Original review: I haven't had this clock for very long, so it's early days yet. But I thought I'd add a review now about something that is just not great. Display readability entirely depends upon how close you are and viewing angle. In other words, this clock has a really dark display, depending upon the angle you are viewing it. Straight on and close up are your best bet. From above below or the sides, not so much. And from across the room? Forget it. They add the snooze bar/light at the top of the thing for a reason. The display is so dark that you need it. I'm comparing it to an older LaCrosse atomic/radio controlled clock that is sitting right next to it for comparison purposes. Got my new clock yesterday. It was easy to set by pushing just a couple of buttons. Once one gets the correct time zone all you have to do is put the clock near a window overnight. By morning it has set itself to the correct time and date and more. Can press top button at night to have light come on the check the time. Light only stays on for a few seconds so does not interfere with sleep. This is my second Marathon clock of the same type. The first one is still working after at least 5 years of use. ... show more

This is a great clock, but it has the same flaw as other "atomic" clocks. Sometimes the signal that they get to set the time is bad and I occasionally wake up to a clock that shows a time many hours, days, and years away. If not having that kind of interruption is important, don't get an atomic clock. Also like a lot of clocks today, it has a few buttons that you have to learn to use for making all of the possible adjustments, like setting time, time zone, alarm, daylight savings time or not, etc. I like my clocks (I have two of these). I use them as desk clocks and I like them for that. For reliability of alarm and time, smart phones are much more reliable. ... show more

I have a Marathon travel alarm clock which has served me well for years and this clock didn't disappoint. The setup was easy. It's just the right size for the bathroom counter where I use it. I don't understand why anybody would want to buy a clock that's not atomic. The only feature it's missing is an always-on backlight, which my travel alarm clock does have. It's easy to read in daylight but in the evening or at night you must press the button to turn on the backlight, it stays on for a few seconds and then goes out. ... show more
