I have a medium sized husky mix who sometimes likes to steal food for the kids. We needed something to keep him out of the dining room for some meals. Initially, we tried a plastic puppy/baby pen, but he was able to knock that down or hop over it. This gate is MUCH sturdier, as well as taller. I think my dog could hop it if he really wanted to, but he hasn't bothered to try because it's just tall enough to be annoying for him. Great value for the cost, too. Impressed in general with this gate. It looks decent (as pictured) and holds up well. Not too hard to open/close, though the side button is a little akwardly placed (I also wish it could fully close on its own instead of having to be manually closed). The only feet that come with it have basically coarse grit sand paper on the bottom to hold them in place. I assume this might work on carpet, but I couldn't imagine anyone putting that on hard floors! Silicon or similar on the bottom would have been great. So while this could be freestanding, I had to place it more awkwardly to make sure the one side didn't get moved around, as I wasn't going to scratch up our floors for it. Size is good, at least. Currently have it propped kind of between a wall and a piece of furniture on one side and tied to a banister on the other. I've been trying to find a solution to keep the dogs from going up the stairs, but because of the way our wall across from the banister is setup (with one of those wooden strip guard things), none of the gates we tried would work. I set this to block off the area before the stairs, which conveniently includes blocking off the front door. It's a safer and more usable option than what we'd been doing and I'm satisfied with it. ... show more

I love that this is metal for it has some weight to it that benefits our use with a Houdini dog. She will not mess with the metal like she does wood or netting. The handle and lock on the gate door is easy to use and fairly convenient, although, I personally prefer locks to be on the very top of the doors. The gate door is wider than most that we have had, so most people can go through it with fair ease when in a hurry or adeptly when paying attention to what they are doing. Because of the weight and sturdy assembly, the fence does not shift position every single time someone goes through the gate...well, with exception of my bull-in-the-china-closet husband with trifocal glasses. Ha!!! Yes, being metal the gate does have a squeak! It doesn't bother me. You just can't sneak through it easily without waking the dog or the light-sleeper husband. I have figured out a way to open it without the squeak. Hopefully, that will last so I don't have to use WD-40. ... show more

I really like this gated pet barrier. It is made of good quality heavy metal so harder for a dog to move it. Also can't be damaged if dog pees on it & yes, I had a Dachshund who was not happy pee on the lower part of it. That same dog could use his long nose to move the gate so I knew it needed to be anchored to the wall to prevent that. HOWEVER, even though the anchors are shown in the directions brochure, there were no anchors in the bag of hardware bag. I contacted Amazon & they were puzzled as to why they were missing. They sent me another gate at no cost but that one also did not have the anchors included & my attempts to reach the company directly failed due to incorrect phone numbers & no response to filling out a form on their website for assistance. I will use the 2 barriers as a pen as that is other option for use. I really like the pipe fitting into a cylindrical channel that holds the sections together when you use more than one barrier/gate; very sturdy. Whole thing folds easily for storage. Besides now crafting my own wall anchors, I added furniture felt to the bottom of the feet that add stability to the barrier sections to keep the metal from scratching my tile floors. ... show more

I love this pet gate in that it is sturdy enough to sit on the floor without having to use the screws and plates on the walls. I positioned each of the end panels in a zig-zag near the walls to ensure it stands on its own. I love the portability in that I can move it to other parts of my house or outside if needed. I used it in my backyard to keep the pets from getting to certain areas of my yard, but has never been left outside overnight. It makes a larger playpen by positioning the ends to the walls and my two small dogs have plenty of room for cushions, food, and water bowls. I have two small calm dogs, an 18-pound Chiweenie and a 12-pound Chihuahua/Miniature Pinscher and they have never knocked over the pet gate or when used as a pet playpen.
