Really fun and simple "build" - probably takes about an hour if you let the kid do everything and figure out the instructions. The remote control is OK, you can do a few things and its cute. Comes with all the tools you need and its a nice little project. But the mBot app is amazing! I ordered multiple mBot kits for a Girl Scouts troop to complete their Robotics badge series. It is made of quality material that I think will last quite a while... some girls even dropped theirs from table height and the bot didn't seem to mind. The assembly was great, however, the coding took a little more adult hands-on to do. Our Girl Scouts troop is blended ages, so each group had a mix of girls ranging 2nd to 9th grade. As expected, the older girls needed very little assistance and the younger needed more direction, but they could all read and understand the instructions. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. We ordered this robot for my 10 year old and she LOVED it. After a week it it stopped working. It told us many times it needed a software update. We were not sure how so we leaft it. It still did not work, so my ten year old downloaded the software on the computer. She was able the update the software and soon it worked just fine again. We were not sure why it needed a software update so early but my daughter seems to be having fun with it. Update: It has been needing software updates CONSTANTLY! Sometimes it is easy to update, other times it takes many tries. I stopped using it for a while and now I cannot seem to successfully update it. Any help would be great. ... show more

This was actually a lot better quality than I was expecting. The parts seem like they are well built. The metal chassis is sturdy and the holes are all aligned properly. The way the motors are attached isn’t perfect and they will likely come loose after awhile, but it will be easy to tighten them back up. My 7 year old son and I assembled the kit together in about an hour, with him doing most of the work. The instructions were fairly simple, although the pics showing where to put the screws were a little tough for my 7 year old to interpret on his own at first. Not a big deal, and he figured it out with some help. Older kids will probably find it easier, if they have experience following printed directions. There are not too many small parts, which i think makes this kit better than some others for younger kids. We just started playing with the programming and it seems to be pretty simple and works well on the ipad. My son is excited to try designing some new programs of his own for his robot to follow. ... show more

We bought this for our 7 YO granddaughter, who took to it like a duck to water. She assembled it in about an hour with no difficulty as while I read the instructions using a magnifying glass (hence the 2 star rating). The preloaded demo programs gave her an idea of how it operates. She figured out the undocumented remote control functions in no time. Then we connected an ipad (using bluetooth) and began programming, flashing lights, etc. We'll soon need to buy more sensors, as the included sensors work well but aren't scalable. I've not tried the bluetooth dongle for the PC yet. Once a program is created on the ipad and executed, the operational step flashes as it single-steps thru the program. I really like that feature for beginning programmers! The remote control is fairly small and easily lost so we put a small bit of Velcro (included) on it and the top of the robot - problem solved. I bought this for my son for his 7th birthday, he recently completed a coding course and he really took a liking to it. he's really enjoying this toy. The kit came with everything needed, including tools and it's easy to put together. Quality wise I can't find fault with it, everything, even the tools are really well made. My only grouse would be the wheels, more so the small screws used to hold them in place, they should give that design a revision, but it's not a dealbreaker for me. Out of the box the remote was faulty so I emailed their support and they sent me a new remote no questions asked. I'm an engineer myself and I whole heartedly think this "toy" is phenomenal... I wish I had it when I was a child. ... show more
