  • This winter fountain is a great value for the price of a deicer!
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. It is great that this is more than just a bird bath deicer - a fountain that can be used in winter is wonderful. Once it the weather cleared up enough to get outside it was simple to set up. It sits steadily in the basin. The cord is fairly long. Although it has a safety feature so it shuts off when the water level gets too low it is currently sitting in a smaller basin which is set in a large tub. It is a great value for the price. The birds are loving it. ... show more

  • Just ok.
Color: Black
The pump and deicer work ok, but in the end, I didn't love the square shape as both my bird baths, and most I've seen, are round. The cord is on the short side, forcing me to purchase another product to shield its connection with an extension cord, and I'm not entirely comfortable with the un-reinforced cord hanging over the edge of the bird bath. I took it apart (simply removing the screws that hold it together) to find that the heating coil is a simple loop with a thermostat - not the long squiggly wire shown in the product diagram. ... show more

  • A Workhorse for your Birdbath
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. I received this birdbath warmer right at the start of an uncommon southern US cold snap. A very cold snap! We had an entire week of temperatures under freezing and this little workhorse kept up! I installed it on a day when it was about 19° outside. Of course I had to remove the ice that had already set up, but once I poured in some fresh water and plugged this heater/fountain combo in it never froze again. That’s been over a week ago and I continue to be impressed! As long as you keep the water above the intake, it works just like it should. It was the perfect addition to my songbird oasis backyard. The birds love it and so do our nighttime critters (raccoons and opossums). I definitely recommend this. Your backyard birds will thank you! ... show more

  • The fountain/heater work well, nice features. BUT, You need to protect the power brick!
Color: Black
The fountain/heater work well. But, You need to protect the "dry area only" power brick! ------------------ I received this bird bath heater/fountain for free as part of Amazon Vine in exchange for my honest review. - See the “NOT liked” section below for caution and work-around regarding the “dry location only” power supply. After over a week, it’s working well. No issues. I put a small flat stone into the water for the birds to stand on also. (they don’t always use it) (See pictures). LIKES: The bottom of the heater/base has short standoffs that allow water to flow under the heater/base. The heater itself then has a reduced surface area contact with the bottom of the container, as well as letting water circulate all around it. Perhaps it’s heating the WATER more in this case than directly heating the bird-bath container material that it sits on. Thoughtful design. LOW WATER DETECTOR: The metal stud on the upper side of the pump is the water level detector. If the water level drops below that, the pump will shut off. I verified that it did function to shut off the pump before the water level falls below the pump’s intake opening. I measured the top of the metal stud height at 1.25“ from the bottom. The pump would shut off as the water level dropped below 1.25” water depth. That keeps the pump from running dry, and still provides some water covering the heater portion. (It was using 60 Watts power with pump off and heater on) Temperature Controlled Heater: IF it is cold, the heater will still remain on to keep the water from freezing and causing possible damage (even if the pump has shut off due to low water). (The heater turns OFF when it is warmer (no temp range was specified.) - I know that the heater was OFF at 62F Deg. (Power Monitor Watts showed it using only 5 Watts power for pump.) - I know the heater was ON at ~43F degrees when I tested it with ice cubes in the water. (It was using 65 Watts power total) (hmm, the Ad states 55 watts? No big deal since power supply shows max ~180W) (120VAC x 1.5A=180W) (I did not verify the 24VDC output voltage or current.) The ad states: “maintains it at the preferred temperature range of 50-59 degrees Fahrenheit.” The fountain water level will need to be monitored regularly to be sure it doesn’t run dry. Higher Wind can blow quite a bit of water out as it comes out of the fountain, so depending on where the fountain is placed and how windy it is, it may require water added more often. I DO like that it doesn’t have a high-spray fountain jet, which would empty the water faster. (TIP: add a note to vacation planning info for: unplug the bird bath fountain pump.) The pump has a built-in foam water filter. It keeps larger things like bugs/leaves, etc.. which drop into the water from plugging up the pump. The filter is easily lifted right out of the top for cleaning. (tweezers make grabbing it easier if fingernails are short) For heavy duty cleaning, two screws holding the pump down can be removed to provide clearance if/when the filter bracket also needs to be pulled off to clean more? (It looks like a small brush inserted down into the opening the filter slides into might clean it enough as well?? Time will tell.) (I have not yet had to clean it. Winter is easier than summer in this respect.) See pictures. Seems easy to clean. ---------------------------- NOT LIKED: ---------------------------- I see that the in-line power brick states: "CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK DRY LOCATION USE ONLY FOR INDOOR USE ONLY" I did notice that it was not sealed where the cords enter it. I was surprised that this version power supply was included with an outdoor water pump, intended for use in summer rain and winter snow/ice conditions? It means the power brick is not waterproof, and water can leak inside. If it does, it could pose a possible shock hazard, as well as likely causing the power supply to fail. I will still use this to power my heater/fountain pump, HOWEVER, I will take simple precautions. (Both for longer life of the product, and to head off any potential safety issue, and for peace of mind. (The power cord WILL of course be plugged into an outdoor GFCI protected outlet) I will be putting this brick in a water and UV resistant outdoor covered/enclosed cord container to protect it! (The container I’ve used in the past for outdoor extension cords to Electric fence timers/controllers around bird feeders has worked great in heavy wind/rain/snow/ice. ---------------------------- NOTES: The power going to the pump/heater is 24VDC, (a definite “LIKE”) (NOT the more dangerous 60Hz AC (Alternating Current)). The DC current side of the power brick cable is far safer. The 60Hz 120VAC current is what can cause deadly shocks and is what GFCI outlets are meant to help prevent and shut down when a fault current flows through something to ground instead of where it is supposed to. The wiring entering the heater section, and the pump section appear to be well sealed. ------------------------------- ... show more

  • Made well, works well. Built in thermostat. Birds will love it.
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. This de-icer/water warmer and fountain is such a treat for the birds and other animals on these freezing cold days. It's hefty and solid, built well to handle the elements as far as plastic goes. The pump is strong and makes for a pleasing fountain. I'm happy that it has a six foot cord. I'd like to be able to use either the fountain or the heater alone at times, which would make it 1) use less energy when I don't want one or the other, and 2) possible to use it all year 'round. Even though these controls are not available, thanks to the built-in thermostat I do think the heat should turn off whenever the water is naturally above 55 degrees, so it should turn off for the summer. The water in the birdbath should be at least 1.5 inches deep. If the birdbath has a rounded bottom, the water should be deeper so that the pump will be under water at all times. The heater is 7.5"x8" square. I recommend this product and plan to update this review after using it in all kinds of weather. ... show more

  • Works as expected
Color: Black
This bird bath heater came in a box with three parts that fit together easily. I made a bird bath using a planter pot and planter dish. Note that the dish that the heater sits in must be at least 1 3/4 inches deep to cover the intake. Once I plugged it in, it started the fountain action almost immediately and the water was mildly warm. You will have to top off the water daily because the water spray encourages evaporation, and the level will go lower than the intake. The plug is not polarized (prongs are same size) but research showed that this is not a problem with a small item like this. I would recommend this product. ... show more
