My friend introduced me to Maglites many years ago. He carried one in his car as a defensive weapon! I've since owned several sizes of Maglites, from the monster D-cells to the smaller handheld. All of them served me well. I had good expectations of Maglite. When they say Solitaire, they're not just describing the flashlight size, they're describing the strength of the beam! Compared to today's LED lights, this is one wimpy flashlight. Imagine the amount of light given off from striking a matchstick. The Solitaire gives about half that. My dime store single LED push-button keylight illuminates better than this product. Adjusting the beam didn't enhance the strength. This was disappointing as a Maglite product. Pros: Beautifully boxed for gift giving (though I wouldn't buy another as a gift). Solid Maglite aluminum casing and build Convenient keychain Perfect shade of blue, and not as bright as it appears on my monitor. Could serve as a nutcracker. Cons: Light output is extremely poor. ... show more

This flashlight has been amazing for my uses so far. I work as a technician and while, yes, a brighter light can help see things better, I’ve found this light is very good at spotting minor details that you’d normally miss with a glaringly bright LED. If you need a bright light in the same size, get the LED solitaire as it’s far brighter than the incandescent. But if you need something with just enough light to make out small objects and dents on surfaces, this might be the light for you! ... show more

This Classic Maglite Solitaire puts out 2 lumens at most. It's not a good fit for general purpose EDC. It works great for putting out just enough light to get ready for work without disturbing your significant other in the bedroom, or to check on the children without waking them. It doesn't have modes to accidently go into turbo and ruin everyone's night vision. The warm yellow glow is easier on the eyes than a white led of equal output. Just don't drop it while it's on or you'll probably break the filament, and use nimh batteries because alkaline battery leaks ruin these things. ... show more

This is hardly bright enough to be useful. Spend the extra and get an LED. The size is perfect for EDC though. The only thing cool about this light is that you can take the lens off and blind yourself while you try to survive the apocalypse.

Exactly what I was looking for, it’s an incandescent flashlight that isn’t offensively bright. I need it for middle of the night diaper changes. I co-sleep with our toddler also and I don’t want to disrupt anyone’s melatonin production with LED lighting while checking on the baby. Also nice for reading a book in the dark at bedtime without hurting our eyes. It’s not super bright so if brightness is what you’re looking for this isn’t the product for you. Almost every other flashlight out there is offensively bright, this was a lot of work to find and I’m happy I did! Purchased a few different colors, I’ll be leaving this review for all of them :) ... show more
