  • Great way to add Nav and high end raio to a basic truck
I bought this kit for my 2013 Ford F150 XLT Supercrew with the 4.2 inch screen with Sync. I had the basic radio that also included SiriusXM. The Kit fits perfectly and is a straightforward installation with included instructions that are pretty good. There are a couple of screw size errors but they don't effect the overall outcome. The finish goes very well with my existing dash setup and looks great. As you can see from the Amazon picture it maintains the existing climate control buttons and knobs with one difference. Pressing either the fan or temperature button will cause a screen to appear on the new radio with all the controls as they are currently set. You can use the buttons or the touch screen to make changes. Along with the kit you will need the Maestro ADS-MRR Factory Integration module for $122 that makes the connections between the Ford/Sync, new radio, and connections to the kit for climate control. The module will need to be programmed for your vehicle specifics and preferences from the manufacturers website. You connect the module to a computer using a USB cable for programming. Before you place an order you will need to decide which double din radio you want. I selected the Kenwood DNX892 that includes navigation, is satellite ready, has HD radio, IPhone or Android integration, and is supported by the kit. Go to the website http://maestro.idatalink.com/ and follow the instructions for your vehicle (they support much more than the F150). You will be asked to verify some things about your vehicle setup and then select your radio. In the end they will tell you pretty much what you will need to get the job done and have links to installation manuals. One reason I selected the Kenwood radio was because you will be able to make a direct connection to your truck diagnostic port and display data on 10 gauges across two pages. For instance you can monitor your exhaust manifold temperature (great for the Ecoboost turbocharged engine), coolant temperature, and many others. The Pioneer radios will not but there may be other makes that do. All of this will be shown when you have made your selection. You can actually run through a number of radios just to see what is supported. Very nifty. You will be able to maintain your steering wheel controls and have the capability to change what the buttons do when you program the MRR module. Each button can be assigned two functions of your choice. One option is selected when you press a button and the second option is elected when you press and hold a button. You can print out a small card to help you remember what options you programmed. Another plus is that if you have tire pressure monitoring and proximity sensors that can also be displayed. The tire pressure page on the radio will show the current pressure for each tire. When you put the vehicle in reverse a screen will appear when the proximity sensors sense an object giving you a visual idea of where and how close the object is. You will also hear the warning beeps. The Kenwood supports two camera and are labeled as front and back. If you connect your current backup camera it will show in the screen only if you have turned the interrupt to ON. You cannot get both backup camera and proximity detectors on the screen at the same time. It is one or the other. There is a button you can press that will display the second camera. In my case I still use the rear camera in my mirror, the proximity detectors on the new radio, and, when I want, the second camera that is mounted on the back of my RV. You will have many choices to consider when you configure the pieces but you are not locked in concrete and can modify things at anytime. You will also need two antenna adapters, one for Satellite (SAT1) and one for your AM/FM radio antenna (Metra 40-EU10) for about $10 each. Because the Satellite receiver is embedded in the Ford factory radio you will also need the SiriusXM SXV300v1 receiver that costs about $35.00. The Sat1 allows you to connect your existing SiriusXM antenna to the SXV300 which will connect to your radio. By the way, the satellite radio integration in the Kenwood is really good. For approximately $1300 I was able to make a big step up in features and capabilities that look factory installed. I now have a Garmin based navigation with INREX traffic and weather. My Android phone connects to the Bluetooth and I have Pandora and IHeart radio. Once I get the WIFI adapter that plugs into the radio I will be able to mirror my Android phone on the Kenwood display. The Kenwood supports two hands free phones, which is great. If you retain the hands free on the Ford Sync then you cannot also have hands free on the Kenwood Now for the Maestro people. There web site is really good and everything is very clear and easy to understand. They have a technical support forum that I used before and during my installation that was top notch. They responded very quickly with clear and accurate information. Their tech support is probably the best I have ever experienced. On review I really can't say what I would change about the whole setup without being a nitpick. When you consider the number of vehicle types and the varied options and then couple that with the huge selection of radios it almost boggles the mind. Everyone from Maestro to the radio manufacturers have done a credible job. My setup isn't perfect because there was a limit to how much I was willing to spend on the radio, but, overall I am extremely pleased and am looking forward to RV trips with first rate navigation and great entertainment.... I didn't mention DVD capabilities that can be watched if you disable the parking brake connection. I did not do this but I am tempted but for safety it is best not to do this. However, if you add a second display you can feed the video to the kids in the back. My kids are grown now but it sure would have been nice all those times my uncle Sam sent me to a different place to live on the other side of the country! I sure hope this helps you come to a good decision for you needs. There are cheaper in-dash navigation systems out there but they don't come close to doing all that this setup does. ... show more

  • Great fit, looks great, works great.
This worked great for my install. I only wish that it incorporated the original volume dial. I miss being able to just spin that thing to the volume I want. Otherwise it looks OEM and works with my Kenwood radio as expected.

  • Be ready for Hvac problems.
Update to the Update: This is now dead. I had to remove the unit and re-wire it per the manufacturer's recommendation last fall. This was supposed to fix all of my HVAC issues.....It did not. I would still occasionally get a message on my Pioneer head unit that the "dash kit not detected". Although these instances did not require a re-flash of the RR module it was still very annoying. Last night I got the message and I have been unable to revive the HVAC. I did an emergency return to stock setup last night and am now stuck with about $1000 worth of stuff that is of no value to me now. I am dropping my rating yet again from 3 stars to 1. This unit was 2 years old when it died. Update: The Hvac on this unit is a HUGE disappointment. Specifically related to this part, idatalink could have saved everyone some headaches by simply making the control knobs indicate fan speed and temp setting like Ford did. Since they didn't you are forced to buy a high end compatible radio to display the hvac settings. Unfortunately it is not stable. I have had to remove the RR module and release it twice in the year that I have had it and it needs it a third time. I should NEVER HAVE TO FLASH IT FOR THIS ISSUE LET ALONE TWICE ALREADY. I regret to say that it is still the best option around but I am dropping tlmy rating from 5 stars to 3 I will also be updating my review of the RR module. I would have expected this from a low end kit, but this setup is the premium offering and it is mediocre at best. Original review: Best dash kit for 2013-2014 F150s with the 4.3" screens. Ditch the crappy Ford system and get one of these, an Idatalink module to integrate the HVAC and steering wheel controls. One tip, mount the Idatalink module someplace where you can get to it later in case the firmware needs to be updated in the future. ... show more

  • Easier than I thought.
Just finished the install in my 2013 f150 xlt. Everything works great. Had to splice into the power and ground wire to a different place in the meistro as recomended by one of their engineers. But it went great. Intimidated at first. But once you dive in and ollow the instructions it was cake.

  • So it does work, but...
While this does work and allowed me to add Apple CarPlay, be warned that if you don't get a deck that includes climate control features then you're not going to love the control on this dash kit. There isn't anyway to know for sure how hot or cold the temperature is set because the dial just spins infinitely in both directions. It alway causes some weird effects with the vent control changing the vent air location in what appears to be pretty random. The fan control is also is similar in that the control knob turns in either direction infinitely as well. Though its a bit easier to know where you because you can feel and hear the fan. The kit does match the interior and fits well. I did have it professionally installed and programmed, which was great because with the additional box you need to buy for the steering wheel controls there was a lot going on to make it all work. ... show more

  • Overall very good - couple quirks
Overall happy and glad I got it. You need an extra 150 dollar part to make sure the HVAC runs smooth and displays but also comes with OBD2 capabilities and other car metrics. One this to note is that I have an iPhone 13 max and most of the cords I used would shut the system down. Maybe thats the head unit I got? The climate controls feel sort of cheap but haven’t broken in 2 years but definitely feel a little cheap and could see them breaking in the future. Price is also pretty high but the finish look looks very clean and professional. I bought a pioneer head unit from Best Buy and they installed it for me for free which was super nice and they did a good job. ... show more
