This is my first radar detector, so I had to do some research online before buying. After 1 week I absolutely love this radar detector. The R3 performs extremely well IMO. Initial alerts chirp slowly. Chirps get faster as you get closer to the source. When the chirps hit a solid tone you can usually figure out the location of the source. IMO there's a sufficient amount of time from the first alert chirp to the steady tone to allow you to check your speed. You can set different tones for different bands of radar which is super helpful too. There are lots of settings that can be adjusted which is nice, but it also means that it will take some time to familiarize yourself with the detector. The best feature IMO is the GPS which allows me to flag spots with known false alerts by pressing "mute" twice, so that the detector doesn't alarm at that spot. The suction cup mounting bracket is well designed. I can mount it quickly and release it quickly with a press of a button. I wish it came with a hard wire install kit though because the worst feature is the included power. It's the standard coiled wire that plugs into the 12v cig lighter. It's just not aesthetically pleasing to have a power cord hanging in the middle of the windshield. ... show more

I like the different options and the ability to mute common non-law enforcement radars. Comes with three separate mounts. I used the single suction cup and it works great. I definitely would recommend a mirror wire tap instead of the obtrusive long cable.

This is my first radar detector and I have to say I’m pretty impressed. I got this after receiving a ticket in Pennsylvania. This radar detector is very sensitive and can detect at very long ranges. It has a lot of different options and filters to choose from. The best thing for me is that you can update the firmware. The firmware updates help with false alerts, update red light cameras & speed traps. I will say there is no point in using X band unless you’re going through some rural area you’ve never been in. In my area cops don’t use X band at all it’s just false alerts for door openers. Also K band gets a lot of false alerts from Honda’s blind spot systems. That’s the only annoying thing no matter what filters you use you will always get false alerts. This can happen with every radar detector even more often for the cheaper ones. KA band is always a cop in my area so that works great. I’ve been using the double suction cup mount included and it does not come off without some pulling force. This is with me running 2 12inch subs on 1000watts. Still stays on the windshield fine. This also picks up speed signs that only display speed but you can mute memory those. One of the best functions of this radar detector is the gps mute memory. If you get a false alert in a certain place or a certain frequency all the time you can double press the mute button for it to remember to mute that location or that frequency. So false alerts can be bad but you can work around them with the memory function and/or by switching to city mode. I use Advanced mode so you can adjust the strength of each band from 30% to 100% ... show more

This thing has already saved me $$$ within a month of having it. It really works. The K band is a bit iffy at times with a ton of false alerts but the Ka band is EXTREMELY accurate. Definitely an essential car purchase to stay careful out there 😏

The majority of reviews (here and online) were positive on this unit. "Best Bang for the Buck" seemed to be the "theme" of most reviews. Maybe doesn't have all the bells and whistles but is a solid performer. It arrived well packed and unopened box. (Yeah !) I used the single suction cup and it has held solid for a week now. The unit was easy to figure out how to operate.....and has come cool display options (color, what gets displayed, etc.). My daily drive is routine. With my other detector there were always "spots" I would get a warning from whatever was in that area - every time I passed there. This unit didn't do that. It must have better discrimination or filtering on those bands. My daily drive is a hilly 4-lane. It does a good job with range - even in the series of ups and downs on my commute. I find I have at least 3X the warning distance I had with my old unit. Granted it was a cheap $100 +/- detector. I hoped I'd get better range on the warnings and it seems I have accomplished that. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase. Time will tell. I hope it survives the daily beating of the Sun - which has proven to be the killer to so many cheaper ones over the years. I'll take it off the mount and at least place it out of direct sunlight each day. ... show more

This may be my most favorite purchase of all time. I have found this unit to be incredibly useful, has a long detection range, seems to be very sensitive and accurate. Set up was easy. What I find most useful is the fact that the detection chirp starts well in advance of visually being able to identify the source iiof the radar, which is very useful when driving. I liked it so much that I bought another for a family member as well, and we have had no problems with either unit. Well worth the price. Would highly recommend. ... show more
