    • Froths almost too enthusiastically

Based on reading many reviews, a lot of people want frothers, but many have problems. The Maestri is a good compromise, especially given the relatively low price. For lattes, I would say the machine froths too well even at the lowest setting. So instead of letting it go to the end of the cycle, I stop it at 1 min 30 sec. The foam is perfect. However, then the temperature isn't hot enough. So I either heat the milk first in the microwave before frothing, or I put it in the espresso and then heat the whole drink for 30 sec in the microwave. So I have adapted to make it work, and I think it's worth it. Unlike some other machines reviewed, it handles my choice of half almond milk, half 2% very well. Given that many contemporary machines made in China don't have a good track record over time, I am satisfied to make my adaption and keep this one. Super easy to clean. The spindle moved by the magnet below is very clever so the pot bottom is smooth and unobstructed for washing. Just add cold water and a drop of soap to clean (heat cooks milk protein making it harder to clean). It took a few extra seconds for me to figure out that the settings are created by pushing the bottom buttons, not the lighted images. After that no problem. My real criticism is that all products should be accompanied by a page clearly spelling out the warranty. I shouldn't have to go to the manufacturer's website to get that information. The reason I wanted a frother in the first place is that the water where I live is very hard. No matter how conscientious I am at cleaning my Breville espresso machine, mineral build up eventually clogs the little tube going to the frother. I didn't want to throw away an expensive machine just because the frother was becoming ineffective. Nor do I want to package up my machine to send to Breville for a repair which deprives me of my espresso for a good 5-6 days and costs about the same as just buying an adjunct frother.     • Wife gets her coffee drinks

Only had if for a weekend so far but very pleased. Have not tried the room temperature froth yet but did try the 140F and 160F temp settings and the two lower froth settings. I notice some difference but more so the froth than the temp. My wife always complains about "coffee" drinks being not hot enough and this was no exception. But I think scalded milk would be worse. It did have a firm layer of foam and I would typically make my wife a latte with the warm milk and wet foam and spoon the last of the firm foam on my coffee. Tried the hot cocoa once but I think it would work better to add the warm milk to a cup with mix in it or let it start warming in the frother before adding any powder. After pouring out the tasty cocoa for my wife, I found a blob of powder stuck to the bottom. We used 2% for everything this weekend. Cleaning is easy if you just go right from making the drink to the sink and rinse the frother and carafe. I rinse the frother by running water over the spring that is wrapped around the magnetic stirrer (the black piece). It catches the water and spins on the stem and I have noticed no build up. The carafe is big enough to get my fingers down inside to touch all the surfaces. It came with a coarse sponge and holder for cleaning but I don't think it needs anything so aggressive unless you let the foam dry. I did forget to start it with the stirrer in place and when I dropped it in, the magnet couldn't catch since it was already up to speed. It made a noisy vibration until I did a quick stop/start and it was fine. I hope the magnets stay strong and I think it will be okay. I think if you don't get the stem and stirrer cleaned/rinsed thoroughly, it could have a sticky residue that might cause the magnetic coupling to slip and cause that vibration I encountered. I searched and read reviews till I couldn't read anymore. I purchased a couple different brands because of their great reviews and I even tried the unboxed ones. I sent everyone of those other brands back. They were awful! One didn't even fit into is holder unless you truned it in a certain directions. The base was diagnal, one I couldn't access the buttons without picking it up becasue the handle was in the way and one I couldnt get to the buttons because of the way it plugged in. You had to turn the whole unit. This unit was my second choice but my first choice by far would have been the $150. unit. I settled for this one at $85. So far I've been more then pleased! Its quiet and heats the milk up to 160 degrees which is my favorite. I'v never understood putting cold milk into hot coffee making it luke warm. This machine frothes so good. I haven't used the hot chocolate wand yet. I think my complaints would be so many parts to keep track of. I eventuall took the wire whip part off because this machine really frothes with it on. I just like my milk hot with a little fluff. I have used regular organic milk and organic half and half and even canned milk. this machine is awesome!
