  • PREPARE AHEAD
The media could not be loaded. Anyone ordering this should know what’s needed to make this function properly if used as a decorative fountain or birdbath. The bowl that it’s being placed in must be deep enough and wide enough to accommodate it. It comes with plastic tubes that can be added to prevent it from going to one side, but if the container you’re using is large, you will need to anchor it with rocks or shells like I did. It took me a few days to find the right size container and design it so that the sprayer stays in place. Also, in order for it to work properly, it needs VERY bright sunlight, it does not store a charge, it only operates when put in bright sunlight. It will work if it’s a little bit cloudy outside, but will not operate fully. There is a lot of splash-over that occurs, so be sure you are using a bowl that is large enough to prevent all of the water from splashing out. This is a great little gizmo at a great price. I have really enjoyed setting it up. Once you figure out how to set it up properly, it’s very enjoyable to watch and makes a fabulous bird bath! ... show more

  • Works well if you can provide AMPLE sunlight
This simple solar fountain works much better than anticipated. Although it is exceedingly simple to assemble and operate out of the box, I can only give it 4 stars for two main reasons: 1.) It's very sensitive to the amount of solar light it receives and will not operate if even a touch of a shadow crosses a portion of the panels. 2.) It's prone to user error, especially in the application I had intended it for I wanted a shallow bird bath for my front yard to prevent the local birds from pecking and nibbling my cacti for moisture, so I set up a small pan with this Mademax solar fountain inside. When I first ran it I used one of the attached fountain nozzles but this caused too much water to spray out of the pan and the fountain ran dry very quickly. I then removed all attachments and the resulting stream was fine in that it landed on the black solar panels and was contained within the pan, but I could see how a strong gust of wind could blow water out. I then attached just the funnel shaped "connecting pipe" and placed a marble inside of it which limited the outflow to a trickle and that was just perfect! Quite frankly I wasn't expecting much of this item but it certainly has lent my yard some nice ambience and was super easy to set up. I would recommend that you use this in a deeper vessel than I have it in (or just be super vigilant about the water depth) and that you experiment with all the nozzles and connectors until you get what you need. I live in Arizona so we get abundant sun, but I can see how those who live in cloudier areas might not be happy with the solar fountain's extreme light sensitivity. Four stars from me, but I can easily see how the aforementioned might give this only two or three stars. ... show more

  • Beautiful Solar Powered Fountain!
The media could not be loaded. I have six of these solar powered fountains scattered through out my front and back yard. We are the talk of the town here in sunny FL by both are feathered friends and our human friends. The feathered ones visit all day bathing, playing and drinking from the fountains; they much prefer moving water. Our human friends are delighted by the height of 2 ft by the fountain spray and the relaxation of the gurgling water when relaxing on the patio. I have had these in my yard for two years and just love them. What Great, Great inventions! (I used to have an electric one that cost me $450, but the outside plug would get moisture and blow, and there was always an issue with the cord or motor. It was a frustration and pain at various times). These work flawlessly all the time. Plus, they have 5-6 different spray heads for a different pattern of spray. Now, be realistic in your expectations. The price runs $9-15. They last 6-12 months and then you toss them into recycling and buy another or more. I am totally fine with that because $9 into $450 is 50. So, I can buy 50 of them before I get to the cost of an electric fountain, and they are so much less work and hassle. Also, these that I buy do NOT store electricity. The solar panel turns the sunlight directly into electricity to run the pump immediately; it does NOT store electricity for later. (I am amazed at the number of people that buy things without reading the description or instructions). If you want a fountain that stores electricity, you will have to pay more than $9-10. I am very happy with these and will gladly buy more when the current ones expire. My only regret us that I could not post more videos of my other fountains. I rate “A++”! ... show more

  • Not fully functionable in standard birdbath
This is a nifty little fountain, except that we can only use it in a very limited way with the two WiwiIron Bird Baths for Outdoors Heavy Duty, 38.5 we bought at the same time through Amazon (they are excellent). With the flow meter set at absolute minimum and with all but one of the nozzles provided, the fountain eventually sprays the water over the side and out of the bath. This afternoon both birdbaths fully watered up to the internal rim, fountains fully centered in the bowl and set on minimum flow through the least elaborate upward spraying nozzle were emptied dry within 45 minutes, helped along by the occasional breeze. The power of the fountain seems to be influenced by the amount of sunlight, and in the full sun the height of the fountain was sending water on to the ground. I cannot be refiling these baths every 45:00. A problem seems to be that the flow regulator, even set at its bottom click, doesn’t really regulate the flow, especially when the sun becomes especially bright, giving energy to send the pumping very high into the air. I’ve attached a picture of the only way we are able to use these fountains in the accompanying birdbaths. The flow meter is at the bottom click and the nozzle sends the water our sideways in an arc that lands well within the bath. Even setting the flow meter one notch up can send the water to the edges and the ground, esp. in bright sunlight. I'll be happy to hear a solution from Mademax and edit this post to reflect a solution. It is otherwise a clever and well-functioning fountain, but it needs to be calmed down before I can use it in a standard application. ... show more
