  • I love figs! Just one 'wish'..
Size: 2.5 Pound (Pack of 1)
I have always loved Fig Newtons and ate them mostly because that seemed to be the only way to get FIGS! I'm forever trying to find foods that help with the 'elimination process' and figs actually DO help. But I don't want to eat cookies with all the sugar, flour, hydrogenated oils, etc and it's too hard to find FRESH figs here. So, I went online and found these and ordered them. These truly ARE wonderful. They are so delicious right out of the bag - easy to throw in a ziploc bag and take in my purse; take to work, etc. Great for a healthy, filling snack and to help with elimination (moreso than prunes, in my opinion). I found that each fig was a bit chewy in some parts, and moist and perfect in other parts. My only 'wish' would be that they would cut off the stem before drying as I just want to plop one in my mouth and eat it all the way, without having to stop and bite off the stem and spit it out. So, now I go through and cut out each stem before putting in my baggie to take to work, and that's something I really didn't want to have to do. They are delicious and I love them, and it's not a big deal in the scheme of things to do that, but I did feel it was worth mentioning, especially if you have children and you certainly don't want them to choke on it, as I almost did. ... show more

  • Autoimmune reaction /white powder (?) on the fruit
Size: 2.5 Pound (Pack of 1)
I’m on Plant Paradox diet (Dr. Gundry) and while figs aren’t discouraged on it, every now and then I get an autoimmune reaction to some food. Some years ago I got one after eating some dried figs. This year I decided to try some figs again because I had a craving. Lo and behold, after having consumed two bags I ended up with an autoimmune flair up and had to go on medication. I assume there is some microorganism that lives on dried figs that causes this reaction—I don’t get one from fresh fruit. This by no means is a reflection on the quality of the product even though as my father says, who knows what’s added to it to keep it fresh and do I really have 100% assurance only what’s on the label is inside. The truth is, I don’t. It might just be that it’s whatever likes to live on the figs that causes the reaction. If you’re new to autoimmune diets, please know reactions you get to foods are different than allergies. I’m allergic to no known foods in existence. The autoimmune reactions to foods happen among others as I understand through the mechanism of molecular mimicry. This might mean that some microbe will make your body throw a fit, and various microbes do live on dry fruit. In particular, figs often develop some sort of white film on them. Last but not least, it is by no means certain I’d have had this reaction had I stuck to eating one or two pieces of this fruit. They are delicious mind you. I hope this helps. Last but not least: obviously none of this is medical advice, but I bet you knew it anyway. :) Thanks for reading. I hope this was helpful. UPDATE I opened the bag of those figs to take a look again. It’s not even that there is white sediment on top, it’s actually white POWDER (FLOUR???) or whatever it is, looks like added to help with moisture or spoilage. THIS IS NOT MENTIONED ON THE PACKAGE. And AS FAR AS I KNOW IT IS ILLEGAL NOT TO LIST ALL FOOD INGREDIENTS IN THE PRODUCT. To the company selling this, did you bother to confirm what the INGREDIENTS in this thing are? Or do you just buy some bulk product from Turkey, put it in a bag, and not care? Should I send it to a lab and test for whatever is stuck to the fruit? Have you cost me autoimmune breakouts and medication? I’m well aware how companies market their products on Amazon without putting minimum care into even labeling things properly, but this is FOOD. Also, does the manufacturer or the seller bother to reply at all? Is the powder some toxic preservative that is not listed on the package? Should I do a lab test and if anything comes out of it sue for negligence? ... show more

  • Top Quality Figs!
Size: 2.5 Pound (Pack of 1)
I'm on my second bag of these dried figs. Much better than the usual "strung together in a circle" figs I've always bought. These are bigger, not strung up and just dry enough - they sort of melt in the mouth. It's nice to know they're organic which may account for their great taste. My only complaint is the zip-loc bag's closure. You have to make sure the tracks have sealed properly, or the figs may go bad. So I've transferred mine to a glass storage container. Problem solved. ... show more

  • Usually Great, but Not this time
Size: 2.5 Pound (Pack of 1)
I've been buying this brand of figs for a long time - usually at Costco, and a few times through Amazon. This brand of figs is usually really delicious. This time, the product I bought through Amazon was not up to par. The figs were dry and tough, and some of them had a fermented taste.
