  • PUT IT ON CORRECTLY
MAKE SURE YOU PUT IT ON CORRECTLY. I had one once before and I didn't screw it on correctly so I ended up cracking the case which led to it cracking further and further. Please make sure you screw it on correctly and it should be fine. The lock and cable is really nice!

  • cheap material; lock scratches your desk
I've only had it for a day. Installation was easy enough (I like that they include the screwdriver, that certainly saved a lot of aggravation). The material doesn't feel particularly strong (it bends very easily), I'm not sure how hard it would be for a thief to simply break it. Also, the lock scratches the surface below - if you have a nice desk you'll want to put a lapdesk between it and your computer. So, all in all, I expected more for my 60 bucks. ... show more

  • interesting MAC RETINA LOCK --blame Apple for this
Maclocks is an interesting product to fill the void that Apple made the RETINA laptop with no Kennsington lock hole. Looks like it can be broken easily but it is a deterrent.

  • It works great until things get hot
I needed some way of locking my macbook pro retina to my desk because of IT policy. There is no slot to plug a lock into so I looked over the field of options and settled on MacLock new wedge lock technology solution. It works great until things get hot. I was in Vancouver on vacation and toted around my MacBook. At some point I noticed that the rubber feet on the bottom of the MacLock device were no longer in the right spot! One was missing and the other one was in the middle of the bottom of the laptop! Not very good engineering by MacLock. The Apple feet stayed put as expected. Apple builds quality products. While the device is a good solution for locking a MBP, the quality of the glue holding the rubber feet on is well below par. Not impressed. I emailed them to see if they would take care of me, but they said they cannot help me. They didn't even acknowledge the product defect and did not say they would address it in the future. Shame. ... show more

  • Disappointed
I bought the MacBook Pro Lock (Retina) Security Clear Case Bundle for my MacBook Pro Retina end of October 2012. I'm a road warrior and need to be able to protect my MB against damage, and more importantly against theft. As many, I was unpleasantly surprised by the lack of a lock slot on the new Retina. This product by Maclocks made perfect sense. I have installed and used the product now for some 8 months and just recently a part of the bottom shell broke. It's the part to the left above the ventilation slots, Of course, I contacted Maclocks and the response was: I'm sorry but the 1-year warranty applies only to cable locks, metal enclosures and stands. Needless to say, I was disappointed. First off, I would expect a company like Maclocks to provide warranty on their products no matter what. More importantly, this is a product which sole purpose is to protect against damage and theft. If a part of the product breaks with normal usage, then that's not encouraging. It does not make me feel I can trust the product to do what it is designed to do. If then on top, you do not provide warranty to at least correct the situation and restore some sense of trustworthiness in your product, I can't help but conclude that this product is absolutely not up to the task. I recommend anyone considering this product to look elsewhere. There are more options now then there were back then. Make sure to check the fine print. ... show more

  • I thought it would be great to have a case and a lock since Apple ...
I purchased this product for my daughter who was entering her freshman year of college. I thought it would be great to have a case and a lock since Apple did away with the Kennsington lock port. The Maclock security bundle is cheap and flimsy and broke within six months. I paid full price which was around $78 with tax. DO NOT purchase this product, it is not worth your money. The locking mechanism was poorly engineered and broke under normal usage. I don't mind investing my money in something that will last a couple a years, but this was a huge disappointment. I will not purchase products from Maclocks again, and I have three more kids who will be purchasing Apple Macbooks for college. Consider my rating to be a zero! ... show more

  • I saw one other product out there that looked *hideously* like a lapbar on a roller coaster
It doesn't protect your investment. I had mine locked on my desk at work and, within a week, someone had popped the wedge corner up and over the screw (where the lock inserts), then simply broke the metal in half. They walked away with my brand new MBP 15"...albeit with half a Maclock stuck to the bottom of it! The only upside for me: it was a work computer that I had nothing stored on yet since it was so new. The downside: it simply doesn't work. Stay away from it. I saw one other product out there that looked *hideously* like a lapbar on a roller coaster, but at least that looked more solid!!! ... show more
