  • Improved Inputs
Size: 40 Watt Color: Natural
My previous LyxPro AGL-40 amp was made with plastic inputs. Eventually, the Passive and Active 1/4" inputs broke. Consequently, I contacted DBROTH to see if the warranty was still in effect, they said it was expired but could give me a 15% refund. The replacement amp has metal inside the inputs. Hopefully, that will prevent breakage. The amp works great! Its sound is dynamic, full and rich. It arrived in a very timely manner and is easy to set up. ... show more

  • Everyone hold up….
Size: 60 Watt Color: Red
This is a cheap amp. Plain and simple. I ordered a red refurb and got the wood grain. Whatever. It was $55 with free shipping. It still looks cool. Expecting this to fill a stadium with distorted sound? This is not the amp to do it. HOWEVER, If you have a smidge of patience and a discerning ear you CAN get the sounds that you are looking for. Search up amp settings on YT, Marty Music. He is the man and you CAN get great tones out of this amp. The clean channel is very clear and crisp. I have the 60 watt and the clean channel is very clean and VERY LOUD and has great reverb. I am able to get a great range of clean sounds with my cheapy tele knock off (Indio tele, which I LOVE BTW). So here’s the deal. I have owned a very similar 30 watt Marshall SS amp in the past and the cleans on both sound very similar. At a quarter volume it’s well loud enough for my basement rock out sessions. I have used small Fenders and this 60 watt version is well on par with those. Now, let’s talk about the overdrive/dirty channel. It’s basically like every other overdrive channel on a SS amp I’ve ever used. Perceived much quieter than clean, which is to be expected with the compression that the circuitry imposes. However, this is still workable if you don’t use pedals or multi effects. This is not concerning to me as I use a Boss DS-1 and it RIPS on the clean, plenty of headroom as this is a 60 watt amp. Construction? Looks cool. Nice size. The wood used is particle board and is a closed back. Not a huge issue as it is fairly solidly built. Knobs and switch are nice and feel good, not cheap feeling. Overall, for the price and the fact that you can old school tweak this amp with some patience and listening, I give it a 4.5 overall. Is it a Fender twin? No, but it’s not trying to be. It’s a great affordable amp. ... show more

  • Good practice amp.
Size: 40 Watt Color: Green
I bought this amp to replace my 1997 Crate gtx15 practice amp. I wasn't expecting it to be much louder or to arrive in one piece, from all the bad reviews and having bought a refurbished model. The box was beat up, but the amp was ok, looked like it was just an amp someone returned. It is lighter than my gtx15 and the build quality is ok. Definitely would not sit on it, as it's not as sturdy as my gtx15. The plastic knobs are crooked, but not the potentiometers. An easy fix, if something like that bothers you. It's a little louder than a 15w, clean. The on board distortion isn't very loud on the highest setting. It's pretty punchy on the low end and could possibly be used as "overdrive". The delay / reverb can't be turned off completely and can still be slightly heard at the lowest setting (0). Not a problem for me, since I use these effects. The effects don't work on the mic channel, as I expected. It is brighter than my other amps and only had to crank the treble halfway, instead of full, like I usually do. I played a strat, a lp custom, an acoustic and even a bass on this amp and they all sounded good, as they should, just not enough bass response. The bass guitar sounded like a bass being played on guitar practice amp, no surprise there. Always good if you only want one small amp for practice. Definitely not worth the hundred or so dollhairs that it sells for new, on its own. I'm glad I only plopped down 58 bucks for the refurbished teal model. It says its green, as in seafoam green, but it's more teal or turquoise in color. It is loud, if you happen to own and use distortion, overdrive or amp modeling pedals. It definitely sounds like a 40w amp and has better bass response with distortion and modeling pedals. I would have given this amp five stars, if it was less expensive and had better and more onboard effects (like the gtx15) and if it was louder out of the box. I would recommend this as a practice amp or starter amp, if you can find it for less. It could even be used for garage jam sessions or small gigs, if you already have effect pedals. ... show more

  • A good practice amp with enough oomph to jam with others!
Size: 60 Watt Color: Sunburst
I bought this for my daughter, who suddenly decided to go from her acoustic and wants to learn lead. She wanted something that she could plug a mic into as well so she could also use it for small public performances. I've been a player (pro since 1969) for 58 years and know amps and tone, favoring blackface Fender amps. But that is cost prohibitive for a newbie so I bought her this Lyx amp for now and to see how dedicated she is to learning how to rip a bit. I gave the amp a full shake down before i gave it to her. A few notes: 1. The overdrive or 'Boost' channel is lower volume than the clean channel. Clean, the output is startling! Plan on getting an overdrive pedal if you want some distortion. 2. EQ is a but wonky. Very thin and bright until I maxxed the bass and turned the treble and mid to about the 9 o' clock position. The sound is very warm, clean and pretty powerful for it's size and class. 3. The mic input is for high to mid impedance only, so something like a Shure SM58 is not going to be loud enough. I had a few old Hi-Z mics around that fit the bill. Something from 600 to 1000 ohm will work fine. 4. The onboard delay is actually pretty good! But only effects the guitar channel. If you want to use a mic with it as well and want reverb on your voice, look for an in-line device or stomp box. This is a good beginner, or in my daughter's case, transition amp. Loud enough to sit in with other players at need and ideal as a personal amp/PA with the right mic. It is hard to beat for the price! But I also suspect it will not be a long lasting piece of gear. It feels substantial and sounds good, but given my experience, it is purely a starting point, not a permanent solution. ... show more
